So, I just gave the first two episodes of Netflix' "The Witcher" a go, and I have mixed feelings thus far.

PROS: Strong acting across the board (especially Henry Cavill), tasteful and spare use of CG effects, they're hewing relatively close to canon, the guy who plays Dandilion has a wonderful singing voice to go along with his acting ability, and to my amazement the wokeness is being kept to a minimum so far. So far.

CONS: Taking some liberties with Yennefer of Vengerberg's back story to bilk what feels like cheap sympathy from the audience (keeping in mind that Sapkowski really didn't flesh out her back story in the books), some sequences from the books have been truncated and toned down, or presented in the wrong context, and there are entirely too many token minorities throughout the cast in the name of faux "representation" when all it is, is just tokenism. It felt gratuitous and cheap on my end, and it took me out of the story every time. Since the Continent is basically medieval Eastern/Central Europe, where people were overbearingly white that I know of. But then, I'm just an evil straight white male, what do I know, right?

I'll watch the rest of it and see how I feel after that, but so far? Mixed feelings. Speaking as a fan of the books (I own and have read all of them over the last 10+ years, here), mind you.

I watched a new version f A Christmas Carol on Hulu. Over all it was good, but they pulled the woke bit making Bob Cratchit's wife a black woman. THey also veered from the original story of Scrooge's greed being the reason as to why he was such a miserable old geezer, and put in this history that his father sent him off to a boarding school where the head master would keep Ebenezer over the Christmas holidays to use as a sex toy. This was a deal he made with Scoorge's dad and would waive the fees for the school in exchange. It was also one of the reasons he hated the holiday season.
