Strongly disagree. Gender is linguistic, sex is biological. Think of nouns in Spanish. Are you really going to tell me "la pluma" doesn't just get feminine pronouns, but that feathers/quills/pens are biologically female? Now yes, for humans at least, both gender and sexuality are binary with aberrant exceptions like intersex people, and English doesn't have gendered articles unlike just about every other language, but that doesn't mean the words have exactly the same meaning, nor have they ever. Besides, you don't ask your romantic partner if they want to have gender lol.
