Well the author does go on to give examples of what he calls hateful rhetoric. Trump does mostly rant about how these menacing people are an existential threat to us all, whether those people are foreigners or politicians on the left or just people who don't agree with him. His rallies seem pointed at just riling people up. The BLM riots cannot be justified, but their motivation seems solid. There was moral outrage at a clear moral and lawful injustice worthy of protest. On the other hand, the Capitol riots had no such justification. People rioted because they lost fair and square. That's not a good reason to protest.
