On Tuesday, Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) objected to legislation proposed by Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) that would toughen penalties for child porn offenders.

Unveiled last week, Hawley’s proposal seeking a five-year mandatory minimum sentence for child pornographers comes as the Senate will soon vote on whether to confirm Ketanji Brown Jackson as Supreme Court Justice, timing which Durbin says is suspicious as Republicans have been highlighting Jackson’s history of issuing light sentences to child porn offenders.
