Such a lie is a form of assault. The falsely accused will suffer long lasting consequences.
A perfect example of this is the Kavanaugh confirmation. The accuser's story lacked any essential details, and had no corroborating witnesses. In fact the witnesses contradict her story completely. But some people still call Kavanaugh a sexual predator. And there is currently an effort to ensure that he no longer teaches at any University.

And even with my children saying it was not true to this day my family and I do not speak because of some of them were the ones who called from 3 states away created a horror for my children to endure and will not face that the abuse came from one of them and the rest covered.
