Let me set the tone here: I voted Libertarian, for Gary Johnson, in 2016 because I wasn't too fond of either Trump or Hillary Over the last couple years, however, I've warmed up to Trump rather a lot as President and appreciate where he's trying to go on behalf of America. (OK, his foreign policy needs refinement, but I'm speaking on a domestic level thus far). After the last several years of watching the media trash talk him on a daily basis for every little thing they can think of--especially since "Russiagate" has been proven false--I've come up with a Theory about Donald Trump. Say what you will about me and this, but I'm airing it out.

Theory is: the Donald Trump we see in the news every day and in public is not the real Donald Trump. What we see is a carefully calculated and constructed persona that is geared towards pissing off the media and the leftists and making them foam at the mouth about him to such a degree that between that and their own relentless campaigning to smear him, is revealing the truth about the Left to the world. Or at least to America.

This, of course, is not the entire reason why more and more people are noticing such and acting accordingly, but it's a part of such, IMO. Why else would the black community have loved him so much up until he decided to run for President against Hillary as a Republican? Note that I'm not one of those rabid sorts who thinks he's perfect and is always on about "MAGA 2020!!!", he certainly has his flaws, most notably his penchant for exaggeration and embellishment. But what do y'all think? I don't think he's near as dumb as everybody seems to think he is.

I did not vote for DJT but have grown very fond of his actions for the nation, and his stalwart demeanor in the face of the continuous slings and arrows.

I voted for McMillan as a protest vote. I just thought the whole election and primary process was a joke. I see you hash tagged Reason...I'm a frequent listener to their podcasts and I approach Trump the way they mostly do.
cringe but... ok?

I'm not a huge fan of his, but I definitely do not suffer from derangement syndrome. I strive to give him the benefit of the doubt. I also enjoy the schadenfreude of the MSM falling on their keys when he is proven to be correct

It's like the plan to send the illegals to the liberal areas. My understanding is that it started as a joke in a staff meeting. One of the best jokes/ideas Trump has had!!!!!

If you research Trump and his past like I have to the extent I have you will see clearer you are 100% right. Except for his foreign policy is exceptional and well planned out, and I believe years in the planning before he ran as president many old interviews, and more. tell a story. This is why Hillary said, Trump would make a great President he can't be bought the plan was he would run as a Democrat just in case a loss for Hillary they are 16th cousins all presidents are related in some way. All have been in a secret society "Deep state" now it has taken over. You are so on the right path to finding out so much they don't want you to know.

@MaskedRiderChris true and he rubbed elbows with so many of them for so many years he knows things that they don't want him to know unless he can be BOUGHT into silence anyone with a brain knows that a President hated as much as Trump had to have at least 1 attempt to kill him. Never has there been a report of such all the hate stirring for him come on right? Think it could be sending a single to Tump?

Trump is no fool. He may have underestimated the amount of lash back by the Dems continual temper tantrums, but I actually think he enjoys getting under their skin. The guy is from NY...you gotta be tough to survive in that city. He has worked around the mafia, organized labor unions his whole life. That’s why he comes off the way he does off script.

And he knows the truth is in his side. I really believe he 20 steps ahead of the political elite because he isn’t beholden to anyone..no lobbyists, no personal oats on the back of promises he can’t keep. His message, if you look at previous interviews over the decades prove his beliefs have never changed. The elite adored him because of his wealth. Oprah was enthralled with him. No one ever called him racist until Hillary decided to run. No one turned away his charity.

History will prove him to be one of the best presidents this country has ever had. And he is coming into his own as president. Probably would have much sooner if it wasn’t for Democrat obstruction. He may not have written this, but he said it like a leader should.

“The Democrats have to now decide whether they will continue defrauding the public with ridiculous bullshit, partisan investigations or whether they will apologize to the American people and join us to rebuild our crumbling infrastructure and bring down the cost of health care and prescription drugs,” President Donald J Trump, March 27, 2019

They day he came down the escalator I knew he’d probably win but I liked Fiorina and Cruz, even Rubio for awhile if you can believe it. The night before election I knew I would have to vote for him reluctantly...but there was no way I was voting for Hillary and Johnson was a wasted vote so I did it. Election night I was crying and couldn’t go to sleep. I stayed up all night. I knew right then it was going to be a fight worth being part of. I knew the Supreme Court was at stake. I felt like my kids future would be better off because of him. I Can’t wait to vote for him again, and Don Jr in 2024 if he decides to run. I think he will too! Lol

I'm inclined to agree for the most part. I've read several first-person accounts that describe a much kinder, relatively low-key individual. Certainly more modest. The problem I have is that the public sees the public Trump. Maybe he's crazy like a fox, but I wish he would tone down the antics, especially the Twitter grandstanding. Maybe it's just because I'm an old fart.

For many of us Trump was a slap upside the head to the pols in Washington. They seemed to have forgotten they even had constituents. Trump is an artful troll on the news media and they take themselves so seriously they can't see it. I find that amusing.

Scott Adams, of Dilbert fame, has an interesting take on Trump. Adams was at one time a professional hypnotist and he has made a serious study of persuasion techniques. He says Trump demonstrates mad persuasion skills. A lot of what the media considers crazy are those skills at work.

No Trump's not dumb. He's playing a long game and he's probably going to win it.

Yes. To all of it. Trump as idiot doesn't make sense. He's too competent (ESPECIALLY in foreign policy). The policy stuff has been a great surprise. But, mostly I think the guy was a giant FU to the ruling class and to oppressive weaponized political correctness/identity politics. Trump became a proxy fighter for our culture.

How do you fight and defeat political correctness and identity politics? We've all tried to move the ball with logic and reason, and we've gotten NOWHERE! Trump starts feeding the left its own irrationality, and we start seeing the ball move down the field. NONE of this is about policy. It's not really about republican/democrat social management. This is about naked power and control.

Social change is a relatively slow process. MLK Jr. jumped that process forward by understanding (or intuiting) the properties of change. Trump has also jumped the timeframe forward. I don't know what he knows to have been able to do this. It's fascinating to consider. But, Trump has been trained in pop-media over a long period of time. He knows their playbook, and he does play them like a musical instrument he's owned all of his life. By the way, we get ourselves stuck by making concessions for the sole purpose of peace. Trump doesn't often make useless concessions. When he has, he's really hurt himself.

Anyway, It's REALLY uncomfortable for me a lot of times. I'm Peterson's definition of agreeable (I really am). But, I've watch Trump change the world. That's not short of phenomenal. It's ugly, he's an ugly fighter. But, you know what? His opponent is a gravely ugly fighter--mean, vengeful, spiteful, and they want it all. Trump was the only right person for THIS job at THIS time. No other person I have seen in the public world (and certainly not in the private world) could have done all that Trump's done. Let the left suck on that--and half of the right, to be honest.

I didn't vote for Trump, I'm more conservative-libertarian and hated him during the primaries. However, while I still hate what he said during the primaries his actions as president have been mostly good (IMO.)
Anymore, I ignore any twitter storm and wait to see what actions result before making my personal yay/nay decision. Trump has been surprising me enough I've had to re-evaluate my methodology.

I think Trump is a master of the deal. He has got the world jumping. When is says he might do something, the markets even respond to him before he actually does anything. The world TRUSTS him to deliver.

I believe I witnessed the moment DJT decided to run for president.
It was at the White House Correspondent Dinner in 2011. Obama made him the butt of several "conspiracy theory" jokes and the look on Trump's face was scary. He didn't like the personal attack and I think at that minute he decided to hit back. And as we know "If you throw a rock at Trump - he throws back a Buick" I forget who said that.

Trump knows how to use the current media environment to speak directly to the people and thereby bypass the MSM filters. Can you imagine being someone responsible for Twitter censorship and having to approve Trump's posts? Can you imagine being the one that blocks him?

The USA is lucky you have him. Someone who is independent and truly believes in the constitution. Someone with a large enough ego to actually believe he can change things. I give him full props - He sure as heck seems to be doing it.

I told my wife I thought he was a buffoon when he first ran, but she actually brought me around and I have so enjoyed watching him own the media/elites. Shapiro’s good T, bad T is generally how I view him now. I do not like his unwillingness to admit mistakes as it is so reminiscent of BHO, and he stoops too low so often and unnecessarily. As a physician, I’ve often deflected angry or hurt feelings with true apologies when I was wrong and sometimes even when I was not. I also have won over patients by being brutally honest with my opinions and honesty about what I think about them.

Everyone knew he was not a virtuous man from the get go, but we really had no viable alternatives and it turns out our buyers’ remorse was so very unwarranted. Entertaining, too. I like watching my retirement accounts again, finally!

I think Trump is by nature an asshole and a troll--and I mean that is as good a way as the terms allow. He has an instinct for poking people and it just really, really amuses him to do it. I think he mostly has the good of the country at heart and he's one of those stubborn old bastards who thinks anyone not aligned with him is not bet be argued with, or persuaded, but mocked. The far-left (and squishy republicans) makes it so easy he simply can't help himself.

Imo the man is a brilliant stratagist & plays the left like a fiddle. What's frustrating is as such, he can't tip his hand until after election when i'm pretty sure the gloves will come off. But nobody's perfect & he's only a PART of the solution. A big part yes, because he has to lay the foundation that hopefully we will stand on.

Once he's gone though, if we lose this country it'll be entirely on us. Actually it always has been.

I really don’t think that Trump can be characterized as a “brilliant strategist”. He’s done some really good things on the domestic policy side, and even managed a few good things on the foreign policy side, but if he were really brilliant, he would have pushed for the border wall prior to the midterms at the same time as (and maybe even as a part of) the tax cuts. The position he was forced into during the government shutdown gave the Dems the upper hand and erased the image of strength he had built to that point. He burned a lot of political capital for nothing.
Trump is an egotist (which is not necessarily a bad thing, the vast majority of effective politicians have extremely large egos), and a counterpuncher. He is and always has been his own worst enemy, and another sign of his not being a brilliant strategist is the fact that he doesn’t seem to know when to simply keep quiet and let the Dems hang themselves. With everything he’s done and how well his policies have worked, I truly believe that if he could manage his mouth better, he would be enjoying a 60+% approval rating right now, and would cruise easily to a second term in 2020.

I consider Trump very competent in a wide variety of venues. I cannot decide if he is some kind of genius trolling the left or if the left is so bat-guano crazy Trump seems like a genius in comparison. I've learned to sit back and wait for the mud to flocculate.

@Borddc

I see your point & you could very well be right. Time will tell. In the meantime i'm enjoying the psychotic self-distruction of the left & hope we don't allow them too much more damage before the fall.

@Penrodster likely a little of both, though it doesn't take much trolling. They're pretty much daring anyone to knock 'em down

@Tommy6915 There was a troll at a Rubin event who interrupted and wanted to speak. Rubin gave her a chance to speak and crazy chick said something like: "I'm not giving my story out for free," then refused money and refused to speak her side. Then she gave this crazy eyed AOC look daring anyone to refute her ironclad ... "argument."
That scene replayed in my head on reading: "They're pretty much daring anyone to knock 'em down."

@Penrodster crazy isn't it?

Gotta admit though, it's highly entertaining & would be more if it wasn't so damn scary that the colleges are pumpin' this kind of thinking & behavior out like candy.

@MaskedRiderChris, surely you doth protest too much.

Don't ya wanna be an 'enlightened' one?
