AfriForum recruits support in the US against Expropriation and Farm Murders.

"The civil rights organization AfriForum has made great progress in Washington, DC over the past week with its initiative to recruit foreign support for its campaigns on the protection of property rights and the prioritization of an action plan against farm murders.

As part of this liaison, AfriForum had a meeting with a delegation from the US government, as well as with seven representatives in the US Senate and House of Representatives. AfriForum was also given the opportunity to make a presentation on the situation in South Africa during a meeting of the influential pressure group Americans for Tax Reform. According to Ernst Roets, Deputy CEO of AfriForum, this presentation was very well received.

Roets also said that AfriForum talks to research institutions, politicians and media institutions from across the spectrum. Various media institutions across the US - including TV news programs, online news programs and radio stations - have already interviewed AfriForum.

"Our impression is that concerns have already been expressed about the situation that exists in South Africa, as well as the potential consequences for the US. Our goal is to get the US government, politicians and influential media in public to take a public stand on the situation in South Africa and to apply diplomatic pressure on the South African government to protect ownership and to act consistently against violent crime. The tour has been a huge success to date. ”

Mariandra Heunis, a victim whose husband Johann was murdered during a farm attack in October 2016, forms part of AfriForum's delegation. She not only shares her story but also offers perspective and insight on how victims are affected by farm attacks.

"This is especially necessary, as pres. Ramaphosa recently said in the US that there is no such thing as farm murders in South Africa. The president's denial of the crisis is not only an embarrassment, but also a violation of the dignity of thousands of victims who have been attacked on farms themselves or who had to give in to death in this way. "

The tour will continue in New York in the coming week, where AfriForum will especially engage with media institutions."
