How is this not abuse of his position. By tweeting a video of her and 911 footage it connects her to the rage of a nation. Now, we can't "know" someone's intent unless they speak it or otherwise document it. But this is outrageously irresponsible. This drives anger and focuses it on Omar. And don't get me wrong...I'm no fan of her or other freshmen congress persons. Regardless, this is attempted character assassination which has led to numerous crimes being committed against her. Criminal threats. Sure, hide behind plausible deniability. Our president has a mountain of it! That's what he does. That's what a mob boss does.

She (Omar) has assassinated/established her own character, with her own words.
If you or anyone else wants to ignore history and her words (history back to the founding fathers on Islam) and stick your head in the sand, so be it, but remember whats naked and exposed in that position, and don't complain when someone takes advantage, (probably without any KY,vaseline or other lube) If you don't have your head in the sand, and still support/defend her type of rhetoric, then I must assume your a true enemy of free people and my country.

That was the "You" in the colloquial sense, no assumption on you personaly

"Regardless, this is attempted character assassination which has led to numerous crimes being committed against her"
Could you please cite an example of this from a source other than AOC?

@ObiRonMoldy I know those are you words, hence the quotation marks. My point being that what proof is there , other than the claim of AOC, Omar, et al(that's a legal term? ) that there have indeed been criminal threats?

@ObiRonMoldy I've reviewed those media reports. Or at least some. And unless you've seen otherwise all the reports I've read state " according to Omar" or words to that effect. Meaning that no law enforcement agency has 1) Reviewed the supposed threat and charged anyone or 2) Been allowed to view them or been ask to do such. Which leads me to believe they are 1) Overstated or 2) Fictional. I'm a US citizen. Born and bred right in the good ole' USA and I don't associate Omar with 9/11. I associate her with radical Islam and stupidity. As for the "Trump base" being worked into a "frenzy" well...that sounds like a CNN soundbite and is completely baseless and unsupported by anything approaching fact. Trump supporters are just like any other group of people. In a group of 60 million I'm sure there will be a nut job or two. Maybe one will shoot up a baseball field with congressmen/women on it....oh wait....that was a "Bernie" supporter.

I don't use twitter and I have not seen what Trump said or did regarding Omar. I looked for it on you tube and the only video I found was a typical hate Trump piece uploaded by MSNBC. I don't think it is valid to blame Trump for backlash coming at Omar after the things she s been saying about a America and about Sept. 11. The extreme left in America (see the democrat party) and Omar herself seem to think that either America has forgotten about 911 or we don't care 18 years later. They would be wrong about that. The fact is that we have good cause to distrust Muslims - since 911 there have been thousands more victims of jihadi terror attacks - and most Americans are uneasy (to put it mildly) about having a character like Omar seated in the legislative body of USA wearing full hijab and spewing hate and making baseless statements about "injustice toward muslims". It is valid to say Trumps tweeting habit is so wrong in many ways. I too would like for him to stop using twitter altogether. I am very skeptical of Omars claims about receiving a storm of death threats, (can you say Jussie Smollet boys and girls?) No doubt some blowhards have spewed unkind words about Omar via social media platforms and probably in some far right (info-wars maybe?) media shows but I seriously doubt there have been credible threats. Of course Omar and the dems in general are quick to latch onto those things and characterize them as "death treats" against Omar. So I say: 1: Omar and others who occupy that niche of the american political spectrum new damn well there would be backlash against their spewing hatred for America. and 2: Trump ought to stop tweeting - it doesn't help him or America. That being said I have absolutely no sympathy for Omar.

Ocasio-Cortez has claimed this is a conspiracy to smear Omar... with her own words.

Someone should say this to Omar... Your Own Petard, Hoist It.

I agree with you except regarding Trump's use of Twitter. Reason being that 98% of media coverage of Trump is given to us through a negative lens. I'm not a Twitter user but he has a vehicle with which to communicate to America unedited. Yes he's rough at times. Yes he's a blow hard at times. But I'll take that any day over the anti Trump bias media.

You may not like the way he fights back, being a New Yorker. But that is what fighting back looks like. I suppose your more in tune with the way Bush handled being called a NAZI and our troops in Iraq being called terrorists, baby killers, no different than Sadam by elected congressmen and senators? He did nothing, said nothing and in doing so allowed Democrats and the media to sabotage the war on terror sponsoring nations. Do you remember the hourly updates on the body count of US soldiers on every major network but FOX. Not done to mourn our dead but to turn the nation against the war for the most crass political agenda's? Just to bring Bushes approval numbers down. I think Trump does.

I think a lot of us voted for President Trump not because we liked him as a candidate as much as the fact that he had demonstrated through the election that he was going to fight back. I do not always like the method he chooses to use but I will not criticize him from doing so.

@ObiRonMoldy
She is a congresswoman. Not just some random citizen making an idiot of themselves.

Her remarks at a CAIR convention were to misdirect the blame from Saudi extremist Muslims. In that community the "someone" who "did something" is always considered to be Israel. You must remember that CAIR is a propaganda group whose ties to hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood are known. They are apologists for Extremist Muslims. Ms. Omar thought she was in safe turf being cleaver. Her remarks minimized the suffering and sacrifice of the victims and our nation. Trumps tweet is much more in bounds than her remarks and her being called out at the highest level is appropriate. If she is getting threats it is not because of Trump or anyone else it is because she opened her mouth and spat out veiled anti semetic hate in an effort to praise a group that does PR for terrorists, extremists and criminals!

@10thGeneration @ObiRonMoldy CAIR is a non-profit that advocates for the civil rights of Muslim Americans. There are reasons to be skeptical of claims that it has ties to the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas. Such claims have not been clearly substantiated to my knowledge and are largely pushed by the UAE because the institutions of the Muslim Brotherhood and probably CAIR itself are a threat to its authoritarian rule. If there were ties, I think it would be important to examine when the ties occurred, what the nature of the ties were, and who represented the ties. The Muslim Brotherhood is a complex organization and often a relatively moderate force compared its Salafist rivals and the authoritarian leaders in the Middle East.

As for Ilhan Omar, all she was saying, albeit clumsily (English isn't her first language) was that a small group of Muslims, mostly from Saudi Arabia, did something terrible in the 9/11 attacks, and in response the civil rights of American Muslims were unjustly restricted, in a form of collective punishment.

@ObiRonMoldy To clarify, that was my interpretation of her clumsy, terse phrasing in context.
