I wonder how restaurants acquire money to pay their employees? Could it be through people buying stuff? It doesn’t matter if it is the consumer buying food or consumer tipping, the consumer is ultimately paying.
So I buy a pizza at what? 1000% mark up, and a coffee at pretty much the same, and then I have to pay guilt tax on top. All you're doing is letting the employer off the hook for paying a decent wage.
And then there's the 'welfare' aspect, people working full time jobs should not need subsidy from welfare. Here in the UK ASDA (Walmart) pay so poorly that their workers need to be subsidized from public coffers. This happens right through the consumer chain including hospitality. Asda are taking advantage of their workers by expecting taxpayers to subsidize their pay.
