Can A Form of Immortality be Moving from SciFi to SciFact?

Between Cloning and This New Technology (link below) that seemingly Allows One‘s Memories to be Uploaded to Computer Storage ... How long before people start growing “Clone Blanks“ to Download Into?

“Scientists say they’ve developed a new “quantum material” that could one day transfer information directly from human brains to a computer.

The research is in early stages, but it invokes ideas like uploading brains to the cloud or hooking people up to a computer to track deep health metrics — concepts that until now existed solely in science fiction”

We are heading in the direction of functional immortality. Exactly how we arrive there is very much in question. It might not be long before we can upload our brains to wherever we choose, a brand new cloned body or an android body that will never wear out. There is a major problem with that. When we upload a brain we are essentially copying the contents and pasting to another location. What we haven't figured out is whether you are still you or is the new location a copy of you but not you. This would work great for your friends and relatives, but not so good for you.

Until they solve this problem, life extension will depend on cloned spare parts and robotic parts. We can probably live a very long time as a cyborg.

Solving the transfer problem will depend on finding a way to actually remove the code from the brain and transferring it vs the copy and paste method. I'm sure you can see the difficulty of this, but no doubt we will figure it out in time.

I understand what you mean ... as in when all your memories are installed will the “unique” aspect of what made you you still be there?
I’m of the opinion that if the memories are completely copied and mounted in the new body that “you” would recognize that “you” were in a new body, but I think a “person” is a collection of memories and life experiences

@Bay0Wulf Are you assuming that the transfer would somehow cause your current body to die? That would be true if your brain data is removed vs copied. If it is copied, both you and the new you would be conscious and would each go about your life as two separate entities.

The bottom line is we are probably close to being able to copy your brain but not so close to being able to remove the data in your brain and put in in a new host. That might take a long time to figure out.

Idk, id rather be able to die one day and re enter the collective whole

That would be great but you are leaving your destiny to other angels. I'll take it over nothing but I would rather be sure of the outcome. 🙂

Well if this were a “blank clone” and a memory implanting and “mounting” I would think you could stop anytime you were of a “mind” to ...
I wonder what the ramifications would be if someone hijacked your “memory” and mounted in a machine or other clone against your will ....

@Bay0Wulf that would be the ultimate trolling experience

@TheMajorTom destiny is a strange topic. i believe destiny is simply what you have and where you are v.s. who you are. nature v.s nurture. the spirit sticks around and the soul is recycled tho, thats fer damn sure. the body is really the only thing that goes away eventually
