I am shocked at how many times I have heard this argument from fellow Christians. There is a huge and important difference between charity and socialism.

You mean like voluntarily handing it over? How does such an important point get left by the wayside?

You mean like not getting an opportunity to vote whether or not unwed mothers should be supported for 18 years or so? You mean like paying for abortions you don't believe in? Like supporting murderers in prison until they die? And their legal teams during all the appeals?

All these issues should be Referendums. Oh wait...there was a Referendum in Canada to abolish the death penalty in the early 60s or so, unfortunately too early for any of the Baby Boomers to vote. I wonder what would happen if there was one now. From what I hear from many of my cohorts, the vote would be overturned. So maybe there should be Referendums on major social issues every 40 or 50 years. That way Socialists get their chance but so do the rest of us regardless of which political party is in office.

@acadian the referendum idea has serious issues with us being a republic.
It would need an extremely tight definition of what social issues are recognizable to be solved in this fashion.
