I, for one, will remember that when we faced a real crisis, the hospitals and many physicians chose money and profit over their own community’s best interest. Perhaps it is time for groups of physicians to get back to running their own healthcare clinics and hospitals. We used to have a code of ethics. We used to put patients first. Not anymore.

The Medical/Industrial Complex, from Big Pharma to the HMOs are all about profit. Patients are not people, they're assets to be capitalized upon. Disease is not an enemy, it's an opportunity to profit from more tests than necessary and more drugs than are healthy. In my hometown there is a medical center that was once a full service hospital built by the greatest physician ever to live in Western North Carolina. But after Dr. Angel pass away his hospital was "acquired" by a not-for-profit medical organization out of Asheville. Then they sold out two years ago to Hospital Corporation of America. Now Angel Medical Center doesn't even deliver babies. It is a place where healthy people go to get sick and eventually die.
