As I understand it, spiders have eight eyes. Apparently, however, they don't pay very good attention to what they see. At least, this one didn't. As I sat reading at my desk, I caught a tiny flurry of motion out of the corner of my eye. I focused and realized it was a black something — not much bigger than a period on the page I had been reading — hovering just above the tip of the straw sticking out of my drink. Initially, I thought it was a gnat, but within milliseconds I realized it was a tiny, tiny spider dangling by an invisible thread. And it dropped onto the tip of my straw. Then it walked inside. As I said, he must not have been paying very good attention, or he would've known that straw goes in my mouth on a fairly frequent basis. Either that, or he did notice and entered the danger zone because he was suicidal. I contemplated my options at that point. I could simply wash him down with my next gulp, but there didn't seem to be any benefit to accompany that, as I had not swallowed any flies in the previous minutes. So I just reached up and pinched the straw, squishing the spider inside it. Then I resumed drinking my drink. After I had replaced my drinking straw, of course. I threw away the one that had the tiny, tiny spider guts inside. Aaaaand, that's what passes for excitement around here. You may now resume your normal social media browsing, and I will finish reading my book.
