If you use social media sites and had to verify each person on your follows with an inperson meeting, how many would you have left, as a percentage of the original number?

I used to have a FB account, and I'd say I knew almost all of them personally. But I had to unfriend and block some former classmates and even relatives who started to go the way of the woke.

I maintain those relationships - the cost to me in time and energy is almost nil and to keep them is more important to me - I am immune to their ideology.

@tracycoyle not even when they start badmouthing you online and ridiculing you before family and friends? You may have time for that but I don't.

@eschatologyguy Interesting that most people seem to prefer to leave me alone, as in shun, rather than to engage negatively with me. As for those that talk behind my back to others...hell, been there. Remember, I broke the very fabric of social taboo when I transitioned and talking behind my back WHILE I WAS STANDING THERE was a 'national pastime'. I've been to hell....in person. Social media isn't hell.

@tracycoyle Social media is neither good nor bad. It is just a communication tool to be used.

I would probably have at least 80% left. I intentionally follow a mixture of people with whom I seem to both agree and disagree. I like to hear different perspectives.

I don't know anyone personally on this site, so it would be a 100% wash. But I don't consider this site to be a social media site, more a 'community discussion'.

But in my daily life, I have a lot of friends that are of very, VERY different political persuasions, purposefully. I too want to hear other sides.

Good point. To go over 60%, wouldn't we have to change or 'lower' our so called standards?

Maybe...depends on the overall number. I know, personally, every one of my FB friends.

@tracycoyle what about here?

So, I don't consider this a 'social media' site for my purposes...
