I believe the answer to the question lies in the efficacy of the old CIA op called Project Mockingbird. The various news corporations were infiltrated by agents who answered to contractors who were hired by CIA officers for the purpose of controlling the thoughts of Americans and all people of the world. Supposedly dismantled in the 1970s, Project Mockingbird was such a success that the contractors were allowed to continue without direct CIA control and deriving their revenue from whomever will pay the most. And who has the greatest amount of liquid capital to invest in thought control other than the WEF?
