The science of global warming alarm is surprisingly easy to debunk.
One side effect of the proposed Green New Deal in the United States is that it motivated me to confirm the veracity of the climate catastrophe on which the policy is based.
Although the scientific analysis can get complicated, you don't have to be a physicist or mathematician to understand the basic principles.
For example, just as a ball always rolls down hill from a higher elevation to a lower elevation, heat always flows from a higher temperature to a lower temperature. This is the second law of thermodynamics.
Consequently, the atmosphere can never warm up the surface of the earth because the atmosphere is always cooler than the earth's surface. This is true no matter how much carbon dioxide there is in the atmosphere.
In other words, there is no green house effect. Actual green houses warm up because the enclosure reduces convective cooling. Heat does not radiate down from the glass because the glass is cooler than the warmer interior surfaces.
Moreover, claiming that carbon dioxide acts like a blanket that traps heat overlooks the fact that the earth is surrounded by the vacuum of space, which is the ultimate thermal insulator.

Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.It seems to me that the main issue is "Do humans cause the warming that's been observed, or does some natural process account for it?" It seems clear to me that people do not cause warming, that it is a natural process fueled by the sun. This can be seen in the historical record back thousands of years in solar cycles, which consist of 11, 100, and 206 year cycles. When solar activity, measured by sunspots, is high, then we have "warming," when sunspot activity is low, we have cooling. The current solar cycle (#24) is about to end, and has had one of the lowest sunspot activity levels in over 200 years. There are indications that we are about to enter, if we haven't already, a grand solar minimum, which could mean low solar activity that may well last for 30 or 40 years, if not longer.
We had warming until 1998, when it leveled off, and we've had cooling since 2007. All of the hype that the earth is heating up still is just that, hype. You can tell that the AGW hypothesis is bunk if you follow the modification of the records by NOAA several times, always changing older temp records to colder temps and more recent temp records more hot, to bolster their claims of man caused warming. Also check out the email scandal between AGW pushers in universities trying to figure out how to keep from having to release their data in open record requests. It is basically all a scam.
