Oh also. Whilst I'm here. I am semi retired (Navy). I work 2 to 4 days a week. There is a desperate shortage of man power in certain industries in Britain partly because Coporations wanted a cheap and flexible workforce. They got that ! People altered their lifestyle accordingly and got on with life. Now .... they like that flexibility and are working to their own requirements .... basically saying "no not today only these days after this time for this long". The Coporations are now $#€ed, as the Anglo-Saxons say.
The shortage of manpower gives them no leverage so bullying won't work ... short/part-time working is causing shortages in shops .... 😊

Honestly, this is the quote that jumped out at me...

"This study shows that the world's largest ever trial of a shorter working week in the public sector was by all measures an overwhelming success," said Will Stronge, Autonomy's director of research. "It shows that the public sector is ripe for being a pioneer of shorter working weeks — and lessons can be learned for other governments."

Got it? PUBLIC SECTOR. They gave themselves fewer hours for the same pay. Who the hell in regular 9-5 wouldn't go for that?

The other thing that hit me was, Public Sector People were "more effective" when they were on the job less. I'm not sure how that's measured, but as a Private Sector kind of guy, I've rarely come down on the side of more government vs. less.

Now, to be fair, there's one more thing---Hospitals. I may be assuming wrongly, but since they were included, I'd guess that Govt. Health Care IS health care over there. The reduced hours argument there is something I would be willing to look into. The Nurse and Doctor Double Shift thing never really sold me.

Shorter Work Weeks ! Hum .... like "collective farms it has been tried. In France a couple of decades ago. Not great results. You need to think like a Marxist to make it work. Eg :-
"We have to enslave the whole world first. Because if we don't the freedom of other nations will always attract the best and most talented of our people."

Competition won't halt and the game won't stop just because you're not playing.
