Just joined. I am in Auckland, New Zealand and I've just learned about the horrific massacre of Muslims in Christchurch, a city I lived in for seven years. Apart from the horror of knowing so many innocent people have been murdered, I can't help but know that our leftist government will blame many of the great people we admire here. Some of them have been out to our shores recently and that will come up in the perverse, self-congratulatory, intersectional shitfest that is on its way.
This terrible act of mass murder was perpetrated to start a war in peaceful little Enzed. Retaliatory attacks will follow and they will be answered in turn. The Muslim community/ies in New Zealand have always been peaceful and even their harshest critics have never, ever condoned any sort of violence but now the situation has been taken out of our hands by narcissistic, ideologically possessed scum.
We had hoped we could sit the worst of this war out. It was not to be.
God help us.

I live in Auckland too. It's just horrific and two wrongs don't make a right. FYI. Islam is peacfull here, for now. All the stats show once they reach over 9% of the population then the Sharia demands start. Look at Europe and the UK. The school where they made it clear about gays, the parents pulled out their children. Stats show nearly half want the death penalty for gays. No, Islam has no place in our society, it's a vile death cult that promotes hate and violence. I've studied the Quran and the Hadith's, if I wrote down what's in that book and promoted it online as my own thoughts, I'd be jailed for in-sighting hate, violence, homophobia, racism, pedophilia and grievous bodily harm to children. This is what Muslims pray for in these Mosques.

It's not that I don't agree with you. Perhaps my reluctance comes from, as you say, we don't have an 'Islam problem' in this country. I live in Kingsland and often like to hop on my moped and take a ride out to Mt Roskill for an iced coffee and a bit of a read. Tons of Muslims out there now and I share your consternation, although the few I've had cause to engage with have been, at the very least, polite and in some cases, friendly. I do know the Koran a bit and I also know that this horrible act will pave the way for an automatic 'yes' to pretty much any request/demand when the population numbers rise. I guess it's just a bit much to ponder at the moment. What was a sort of academic knowledge has become horribly real, all at once.
I'm reading Tarrant's 'manifesto' at the moment. I won't go into it here and now but the one thing he makes abundantly clear is that his actions are deliberately and specifically to start a war usind identity politics as both means and end.
I don't even know if this piece of shit realises what he's done to us, to all of us. I think he does actually. The scariest part of his writing is that he really doesn't seem to be any sort of nutcase. I'd much rather he was ranting about aliens and how the CIA are plating bugs in his teeth. Then he could be safely dismissed a lunatic.
Jacinda Adern has already stated that our already punitively strict gun laws "will change" claiming in her idiotic way that"no one really needs a semi automatic". because she has no idea what a semi-auto is or how people live outside her plush, rent-free flats in Wellington, Auckland and Christchurch. This is just the ip of the iceberg,

Still not much info coming out. Sounds like other people were also involved:
Syed Mazharuddin, a survivor at the Islamic Center, told the Herald that a young man who takes care of the mosque jumped on the gunman and took his weapon as he was opening fire on a group of elderly people sitting near the entrance.

"The hero tried to chase and he couldn't find the trigger in the gun ... he ran behind him but there were people waiting for him in the car and he fled," Mazharuddin told the newspaper.

Just going from the video, one man did try to jump the gunman. He got very close but Tarrant turned right at that moment and fired. It really was very brave but, alas, unsuccessful. One of the four arrested was disarmed by police. He was armed but I think it was his own firearm and he was definitely trying to shoot the gunman. Again, going by the video, Tarrant was alone in the car. As for the others involved, I'm still waiting to hear what's happening with them as well. Tarrant insists that this was him acting alone, but I'm not going to take the word of a mass murderer so I don't know what's happening on that score.

My heart breaks for NZ. God bless and stay safe.

I am so sorry the madness of our world has visited you. We all hope there is an island of calm in this frenzied world, even if we can't get there ourselves. May your peace return swiftly.

I agree. Some people will not miss this opportunity to smear and discredit anyone they perceive as their enemies.

When these tragedies occur, it is important to take the time to gather evidence and facts about what happened, and why, and not to make rash assumptions which can lead to unwise and often catastrophic unseen consequences.

Right now, it is the time to extend our sympathies to the innocent victims, whoever they are, and to re-emphasise our opposition to violence by anyone, irrespective of their beliefs.

One of the attractions of the IDW community and those figures who have inspired it, is the mantra of being able to discuss different and often opposing views free from any form of violence and explicitly condemn any kind of personal attacks - physical or verbal!

Welcome to the community. I just joined myself and, being from America, I know the concern you are having about groups of people turning a tragedy into partisan politics. It's sickening.
