With all due respect. Criminals do not obey our laws. Radical Islamists do not obey our laws. Foreign invaders do not obey our laws!

The 2nd amendment is simple, straight forward and succinct. In order for well regulated militias to be made for the protection of any state the people must have the right to keep and bear arms and that right shall not be infringed upon in any way. It is not only for hunting, protection, sport or any other reason our right to have them is secured. It is in case we need to we can band together as citizen soldiers as the First Continental Armies did to fight British invaders or, even our own government should it turn against the people. As it has been doing more frequently lately. We are not restricted as to the kind of weapon. That is why it says "Arms" and not "Muskets," The idea that weapons such as we have now were not envisioned by the founders is morose. They didnt imagine radio's, high speed printing presses, fax machines, television or the internet when they made the 1st Amendment. If such were the case why are we here in violation of the law? Besides. Do some research on the Puckle Gun. The first "Assault" weapon. And please stop calling these guns "Assault rifles" Assault is an action, not a thing. Assault is what could happen to you if you try to take something that is a citizens lawful right to have.

One last thing. I understand youre opposed to violence. Any sane person would be. But logic, reason and history have shown us as Americans:

"Some people are morally opposed to violence...they have the luxury to be...because they are protected by people who are not!"

So what happens if t general populous has been influenced or manipulated. What if they are wrong? I agree with the reasons for creating the second amendment but do you really feel you need an assault rifle to protect yourself against the government? I don't live in America so that may well be justified

As an individual I do not need any weapon to defend myself from possible tyranny, but this is only because enough of us actually have weapons to defend ourselves from possible tyranny.

@MADcHATTER I care very little about guns so you will forgive me if I don't. What is it about the American government or any agency that makes you feel you need personal protection and not that of your government?

Excellent post. The Puckle Gun is a good arguing point to debunk the myths put forth by the gun control crowd.
