How close are we to the nightmare world envisaged by George Orwell in his novel 1984? We have Thoughtcrime, Newspeak, Ownlife, and even an Anti-Sex League. Orwell seemed to know the future. Was he clairvoyant or had he just been in contact with people inside cultural Marxist think tanks. He was involved with the Fabian Society.

There is nothing new under the sun. By the time Orwell was writing 1984, Marx was yesterdays news, the Soviet Union was well underway, and the world had seen Hitler's brutal regime.
Tyrants gotta tyrant, and thugs gotta thug. In 20/20 hindsight it doesn't take much to extrapolate what was obvious about England even then to the next level, but Orwell was a genius.
He not only hit the specifics, but his tone was pitch perfect.

Some would say that we are closer to Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World" with the masses kept perpetually in a feel-good mood thanks to trivia and TV dross. We have reality TV. Huxley imagined a drug called "soma" that kept people in happy ignorance - all the while unaware of what was really going on. Sure does feel familiar to me!

Simply put, Orwell was a man that thought for himself and could reasonably predict the direction society would go many years down the road. It certainly appears we are living in 1984.

In my humble opinion we are and have been living Orwellian for about as long as home computing has been around roughly the last 23 years. It's growing exponentially and our privacy is all but gone. Similar the the frog in the pot story it's evolved over a period of time so as to acclimatize us and as a result we have a apathetic society which translates into a malleable population. As intended we are where the oligarchs want us just unaware enough to manipulate us........

Apathetic, good description. Too many of us too willing to maintain the comfortable status quo.

He, H.G Wells, George Bernard Shaw, and Aldous Huxley all had ties to The Fabian Society--and to Sidney and Beatrice Webb, perhaps the two most influential Socialists of the early 20th century. The Webbs were a very interesting couple, being two of the founders of the London School of Economics. Both are buried in the nave of Westminster Abbey.

Interestingly Aldous Huxley was Orwell's schoolteacher. I'd give a lot to be a fly on the wall during one of their private discussions after class.

We are close and the progressives push very hard in that direction. Fortunately a majority of Americans do not agree with many of these policies but sadly are apathetic. We must wrestle back control of the media and our schools

And the only way to do that is to wrestle control of the Central Bank (Fed Reserve) away from the International Bankers---and they would not release that control until the world is destroyed.

We certainly do appear to be on the precipice of his dystopian future

It's a grave situation, Russ. "Don't let it happen" as the great man himself said.
