It's not that different from having security cameras everywhere, which we already do. You think that if there is a hidden camera that there always has to be a sign that the place is under video surveillance, but that is not the case. Just having better security cameras would have almost the same effect as having facial recognition software applied to the cameras. It's a matter of how long it takes to catch people, and of the bias of the human vs. the possible flaws in the software (which will improve with more faces viewed.)

When I was a little kid my parents took me to see Santa at the Golden Rule Department store (yep, I'm that old!). As I looked up into his face (and especially his eyes), I realized, 'I know this guy!' Never saw him before in the git-up, but I knew him. It was my grandpa on my dad's side. I was practicing iris recognition DECADES before I even knew the word!

In Britain, they have cops who are called "super recognizers." A pic was on a screen as on cop passed by, and it showed the guy wearing a hoodie and scarf around his face and the cop said, "Oh, that's so-and-so (by name)."

Who are oppressors? I live in New Zealand and don't feel oppressed. Is it different where you come from?

Yes, you could say that...

@SpikeTalon who are the oppressors in your country, and how do they oppress?

@Michendo Those who call themselves Democrats, and they seek to pass legislation that of which circumvents our constitutional rights. They tax some people into poverty as well.

@SpikeTalon if That is your definition of opppressors in your country, I don't think you have much to fear with facial recognition software.

@Michendo Eh, perhaps not...

This is a violation of the 4th Amendment and will affect the 1st. The whole "If you aren't guilty of something you have nothing to fear" bootlicker crowd sickens me. The kind of attitude that brought us the Patriot Act. This attitude is cowardly and more to the point, it ignores the fact that when you know Big Brother is watching it tends to change your behavior, including your speech. Our Constitution and Bill of Rights are sacred and serve to keep our government in check. All who would chip away and seek to tear down this protection are would be oppressors.

“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.”
