If you hadn't yet heard about red flag laws, do educate yourself on the topic, you won't be sorry...

Seriously why can't we get these things right?
"We should keep guns away from people with a history of violence."
Everyone agrees.
The left: "Ok, let's take away guns from anyone who is in a fight with their relatives, and deny them due process."
Ummmm... wait, what?
Due process for mental health and then take the guns away. If someone is confiding in you about depression ask them if they'd mind surrendering their weapons for a while. If this is the "we called the FBI and told them that he was making specific threats with pictures of him holding guns" where the FBI then apologized for their failure to investigate routine, giving government more power to fail us is not the answer. Correct
OK so the example in the article deals rather simply with depression. What if someone is professionally diagnosed with either schizophrenia, bipolar or manic depression or indeed psychosis with violent tendencies?
The article also assumes that all those who object to fine-tuning the 2nd Amendment are socialists. This is just plain wrong - and annoyingly so. I happen to support 2nd Amendment rights but do think some caveats are due... I am not a Socialist.
I understand why the 2nd Amendment exists - I mean you guys need to protect yourselves from the King of England's men who want to come and kick your front door down and push you around... or from the potential excesses of your own tyrranical government. However - do you really think that allowing an acne-ridden, socially retarded and malevolent teen should be allowed to buy an assault weapon to set about getting his twisted revenge on society?
There is a court process available to deny a person the right to bear arms. I think there are certainly some things that can be done to fine tune the 2nd amendment. When the NRA proposes them, I'll have a look at them.
