I beseech you all to stand up for Tommy Robinson. The media and government have colluded with big tech to silence him, and their winning. This is a vile infringement of his freedom of speech and political ideology should not be allowed to stand. We can fight him together.

Tommy Robinson is a hero in my eyes, much like William Wallace was in the early 1200's. Where would we be as a society without brave ones like him? When people like him are unwavering in their stance and refuse to give up it gives all of us a voice. United we stand

How exactly can we fight the media, government, and big tech in England when most of us do not live there? I like the guy, but unless he’s looking for thoughts and prayers from me I’m not sure what’s to be done here. You guys could have yourselves a Boston-style tea party one day though ... ?

Anyone who still thinks that the govt.,media, and others, are not using every means both legal and illegal to silence him, cannot possibly be shown ANY evidence that will change their minds. Without being allowed to exercise free speech, all the freedoms enjoyed by anyone anywhere are in jeopardy. Actually they are under assault for a reason. What we need to ask ourselves is, what is THAT reason.

Freedom of speech is being imposed as we speak. We need to play it politically and smartly if we are going to achieve anything, not through force. Hopefully the IDW community bands together like we already have to start conversation.

Although Tommy has been systematically misrepresented by many media outlets, much of the trouble he is in right now he has brought on himself. I don't believe that Robinson is a fascist or as far-right as his detractors and enemies believe. However, his arrest last year was justified but his conviction was not. This is what happens when an 'activist' tries to become a journalist without being privy to the laws that limit journalistic activity around active legal cases. As a reporter it is illegal to identify suspects or defendants prior to their conviction. He was warned by a judge in a previous case in early 2018 that if he was found in contempt again (by identifying suspects in a similar case) then he would face prosecution. He ignored this warning by repeating this contempt in a subsequent case and was immediately arrested. This contempt case was rushed through the system and he was jailed almost immediately. His legal team rightly pointed out that his case was not dealt with fairly, despite the fact that the judge technically had the power to jail him.
The legal system in the UK is fundamentally different to the US system in that it is solely based on precedent rather than indelibly tied to a written constitution. In the UK we do not have the equivalent of The First Amendment - where freedom of speech cuts through every aspect of the US legal system. As I have already said, the judge acted within his/her legal limits - That isn't to say it was right to jail him straight away. The freedom of speech furore that followed was based on a fundamental misunderstanding of how or legal system in the UK has worked for 400+ years.
In my mind there is absolutely no doubt that Robinson's voice is one that needs to be heard, but he needs to get advice on where the legal red lines are. The 'Grooming Gangs' scandal is an absolute disgrace which needs to be seen for what it is - an attempt to underplay the involvement of Muslim men in paedophilia, rape, torture and kidnapping over an extraordinarily long period of time. Police and local authorities systematically buried facts in order to prevent a backlash by emergent far-right groups all over the UK which was seen, by these authorities, as a real threat to society at large. A massive mistake which has backfired spectacularly and has led to the emergence and empowerment of a very large group of supporters which, in my opinion, cuts across traditional left-right political divides. Remember that this Grooming Scandal was first exposed by Labour politicians who were ostracised and then thrown out of or resigned from that party.
The ongoing Panorama debacle is really just a sideshow which, once again, is proving that the media and 'the establishment' at large is still incapable of dealing with popular movements that use non-traditional media outlets and personalities to further their causes. Panorama's collusion with the 'Hope not Hate' left-wing agitators is yet another huge mistake which could well have major consequences for The BBC. Tommy Robinson is fighting back aggressively in the only way he knows - by subjecting his tormentors to the same treatment he has received himself over the past ten years or so. It is a tactic that could well backfire on him if he's not very careful. He needs to get some serious legal advice before he continues in this vein...

@HeedTheBaw I already explained it above. I don't give a fuck whether you're 'over' something or not. Tommy broke the law and he needs to be careful - that's all I said. You sound like you want trouble rather than justice

Your focus is so much on the legal side of things - yes, I get it. What are your thoughts on the notion that the British government, the BBC, the radical left group Hope not Hate, etc. are colluding to silence Tommy Robinson (if not getting him killed)? I don't know if you have watched "Panodrama" but do you have any suggestion as to how to tackle the corruption of the BBC?

@Naomi The British government is not corrupt and neither is The BBC. I really don't have the time or the energy to go into proving that my government has clean hands - obviously there will be corrupt politicians somewhere in the system but to say that 'the government' is corrupt and actively colluding against Tommy Robinson is utter paranoid nonsense and giving Robinson far more power and credit than he deserves. The BBC gives its reporters complete freedom to work within the parameters of its own codes of conduct. John Sweeney and other producers at Panorama have clearly breached these codes and will be disciplined accordingly - as they definitely should. Again - to say that The BBC is corrupt is utter paranoid shite and I, as someone who has worked for them in the past, can attest to the good faith and good practice of the institution as it stands. The BBC is accused of right-wing bias by Labour and of Leftist bias by Conservatives - who, then, is correct? Hope not Hate are bunch of dangerous and hateful militants, much like Antifa, who are bent on causing as much chaos and damage to Robinson as possible and wish to sideline the crucial issues that Robinson addresses with his protests. To think that the government in general, Hope not Hate and the BBC are in cahoots to restrict your and my freedoms is some really puerile, join-the-dots conspiracy theorising that is simply impossible. It is extremely socially damaging to incite mob hatred on the basis of these paranoid delusions.
As I have already mentioned here, Robinson is addressing and airing some truly important issues that have been ignored for many years and which have resulted in some truly embarrassing and damaging behaviour by Police, Local authorities and Social Services. However much you or I think that Robinson is a victim of 'The Elites', we end up defending a man who is a convicted thug (kicked a policeman in the head at a football match), who was a member of a violent right-wing and openly racist group (BNP), and who has twice breached contempt of court laws. Mobilising street thuggery in his defence is a serious error and, instead of doing anyone any good, will make things much, much worse

I mislike the type of censorship being imposed on us

Tommy Robinson is a hero. No doubt in my mind. And, as you say, we must stand up to the assault on free speech.

2

I don't particularly like Tommy but I am not a fan of this censorship that is taking place. I presume you've watched Panodrama then ? The way he blistered the BBC was outstanding.

@HeedTheBaw
Add this one to this list as well, the progressives will like Sa Ra Garvey until they find out he's a black nationalist.

Will gladly do.
