Politicians, of every stripe, particularly those on the Left, simply can't come to grips with why they perpetuity fail to fulfill their goals or stated promises regarding policy and law. They fall, over and over, they must reform and reform laws again and again because they fall to understand the law of unintended consequences that their bright ideas cause nor the vast, almost incomprehensible complexities of reality.

They fail constantly because they cannot reconcile their political novelties with the reality of an extremely complex and ever-changing world. They are static in their understanding of the world, missing the fact that economics, societies, cultures are so very complex that it is beyond their ability to control every possible facet with laws and policies that usually, if you connect the dots all the way back to the Progressive Era, cause more problems than they solve. They tend, based on evidence not ideology, to make things worse for the very people they claim, with grandiose zeal, to want to help. The problem with pie-in-the-sky policies is that no one ever gets to enjoy the pie.

The fact is that there are so many intricacies, not just legally, that politicians can't grasp, but there are cultural, historical and even psychological factors that that are never really taken into consideration when forming policy or law, but that are and forever will be out of the ability of politicians to control no matter what type of law they propose or pass.

Politicians can't know or understand all the various circumstances that Individuals will choose or think that causes them to act in their own best interests therefore, it is absolutely impossible for government to understand or create laws to address those circumstances.

Central Planning, as heavily promoted by Socialists and politicians in general, cannot be implemented with any degree of success but can be implemented with a great deal of failure resulting in suffering among the people. There is a very real fatal conceit among politicians or haven't you noticed... You have men and women who are elected out of every walk of life, but are no different than you or I, yet once in office people tend to view them as though elected office makes them brighter, more enlightened than the average person... In fact politicians once elected view themselves as a force of power that they mistakenly believe it's real. This effectively creates a vast pool of political and thus, effective societal incompetency where issues are transformed into problems that appear to be insurmountable. The fact is that most problems are insurmountable if allowed to be the sole purview of government legislative abilities, if we continue to allow government to function as the primary source of solutions.

If laws and policies presented by politicians actually worked we would be living in paradise by now. There are so many Federal and State Laws on the books that no one actually knows just how many there really are, not to mention the extra-legislative codes and regulations created by unelected bureaucrats. With the astounding number of laws and regulations comes the complexity of legal interpretation. I've encountered different federal regulators giving very different and often conflicting interpretations of the same regulation, making it virtually impossible to conduct business with assurance of legal protection.

So why do politicians fail over and over and over again, why do they have to constantly reform law after law over and over again? The answer is that politicians have breached the boundaries of Constitutional order, they have become busy-bodies attempting to regulate human action beyond the enumerated powers delegated to government and in the process they have, in very definitive ways, created the abject mess we have in this country and this world today.

Keen observation, and right you are.

They fail because that is what they want. If they fix the problems we won't have a need for them to fix things so they use the same problems for years to keep an "agenda" only to never really work to get it done. Gives them job security.

They fail bc they can't see the world has changed more in a generation, than they could have ever predicted. Instead of adapting they reverted to the worst habits of previous electorates

They fail because of hubris, they fail because of their unwavering faith in the State and the power government allows them to operate. They fail because they can't see the limitations of their own ability to understand the vast complexities of life and the society at large.

@Republicae I agree with me too
