According to the 1860 US census only 8 % of the citizenry were slave owners. The benefit they received was a private not public use of free labor. The US government abolished slavery in our bloodiest war 154 years ago. We would do well to study history in its context before forming an opinion about the need for reparations, especially from whom and to whom. Politicians pandering to voters without understanding the matter themselves continue wounding with their perpetual victim narrative.

Not enough Americans understand these historical facts.

That is NOT "America's dark history." It is DEMOCRATS' "dark history."

Let Democrats pay for it.

Good idea.

Wonder if she is ready to pay reparations for the slavery of Egypt to the Jewish slaves as well? It's hilarious how all these things are always focused in to only attack the white race because of history when all races have been pieces of shit in the past. It's just an easy way to get cheap votes from the black community and that is why she is pushing it.

6

If they really wanted to make this fair, they'd demand reparations from the other African tribes that sold them into slavery in the first place.

Wakanda won't pay them...

5

No! I am not paying for something my ancestors had nothing to do with. It’s just another way to keep blacks sucking off the governmental tit and on the Dem plantation.

5

Since she is directly descended from a documented slave owner, maybe she is the one who should pony up.

4

No way. That woman is out of her mind.

It was probably her friend Jussie Smollett's idea anyway since plan A didn't work out so well.

I have a problem paying for something that happened 170 years ago as a result of some greedy farmers trying to capitalize on cheaper labor unfortunate as that was.

I feel like the human sacrifice of the bloodiest war in our nation's history should balance out those scales of Justice she imagines are so out of whack

@Rus-T-Balls I lost at least 2 forefathers in the violence leading up to the Civil War. My whiter side came from Europe after 1890, so how and in what way do I owe? Dads side fought to free you, and Moms side were serfs in Austro-Hungary.

@Paisley_Pirate I don't believe in reparations on almost any level to a person that was not directly afflicted, simply attempting to point out that when we saw one of the greatest human rights tragedies in the world's history we fought a war and more Americans died in that war than any other war. But that sacrifice of humans doesn't seem to be enough for her, she needs money

@Rus-T-Balls Oh, don't mistake my sarcasm... sorry should have marked it. Your way of looking at it and mine are nearly identical.

@Paisley_Pirate damn it I was afraid of that, we should suggest maybe an alternative text font for sarcasm

@Rus-T-Balls Excellent idea.

@Clayton51 I too agree. I'm starting to really enjoy this site.

I agree, as long as HER money is used first! Otherwise, Hell NO!!

3

I don't believe in punishing someone for something they didnt do or rewarding someone for a bad experience they did not live through.

3

I'm a tenth Generation American Mutt. Part of my family came from Ireland, and were slaves until they worked enough to be freed.
I want my reparations, you Indian/Jamaican Bitch. Your own Dad dissed your sorry ass.

Exactly white indentured servants. Many worked years to gain their freedom and were mistreated as well.

According to her in the early 90s she was in college and also the DEA in San Francisco getting high listening to gangster rap while prosecuting marijuana offenses? Logic has no place with her

3

Absolutely not! She is out of her mind.

2

No. Can’t change history. Everything happened for a reason. We have to learn from it, not try to fix something that happened years ago.

2

I absolutely disagree. The people concerned are long dead, and we are not responsible for the sins of our ancestors.

There has to be a limit to how nations can be reasonably be expected to make amends for the past.

2

Hell no

2

Absolutely not, it is not our transgressions!

She a panderer of massive degree!

I've gone rounds with people over this topic. In my humble opinion, this is one of the most ridiculous platforms to run on, for the simple fact that it makes absolutely zero sense. Besides the obvious of it's ignorance, it's quite possible that -- if passed into law -- it would open the door to all sorts of "you owe me because of..." legislation. However, I have my doubts that it'll ever happen.

There is no one alive who was or owned a slave.
Not a single relative of mine was even in this country prior to 1880.
Living in this country, however we got here, is the areas gift anyone can get.

I feel sorry for the slaves, for the Jews in Europe in 1930s, for the Irish during the famine. But it that's what got me here, I am grateful.

1

620,000 mostly white men died in the American Civil War. Maybe we should give their descendants reparations as well. My family never owned slaves so do we have to pay? Maybe we should just have registered Dems bear the responsibility for reparations, they formed the KKK.

We can’t move forward if we dwell on the past . It’s just the victim mentality and the left love it . It’s what keeps racism alive and those who hate in getos hating the ones trying to wake up . Those who do wake up get criticized.

1

How ridiculous! Anyone personally affected, or responsible, is long, long dead. Quit bellyaching and bellying up to the public trough. Any American citizen has the opportunity to work toward a better life if they they will put forth greater effort in furtherance of that goal than to whine and expect a handout.

1

The debt has already been paid in full with the blood of whites fighting to free the slaves in the civil war. Guess we should've kept a copy of the receipt.

I agree.

I read that her Black father told her that in her heritage, was a female slave owner in Puerto Rico.
