I've always felt the LGBQA community would best not associate themselves with Ts. Sexual orientation and gender identity are not the same thing, they're not even on the same 'spectrum' to coin a currently popular phrase. Compassion notwithstanding (I'm happy to be an A for ally), as both groups of people should not have to suffer denigration, it does a great disservice to homosexuals to conflate sexual orientation with a mental disorder.

American Pysychiatrists and Psychiatric Societies agree that feeling you are a different gender is a mental disorder, much like anorexia, thinking a limb is not a part of your body, etc. Unlike many social warrior psychologists and counselors who would rush to abet and encourage the delusion, a psychiatrist would use counseling, and possibly drugs like those used to treat Obsessive Compulive Disorder. There is now a specific drug, (can't recall the name), that psychiatrists have used with some success in treating the trans disorder. Many people who once had the disorder recovered, without any treatment, with age and maturity. Those individuals have stated that they felt grateful they had not grown up in today where young children are rushed into drugs and surgery rather than proper counseling.
