I'm interested in what leads people to choose a particular ideology, or religion.

This is an ideology I was shown.

Two great forces of energy, Intelligence and Passion, intermingled. God became and the creation of the universe began. The intermingling of these forces creates matter and Free Will (another powerful energy force) and which is the basic “instinct” to survive.

Each force without the other is useless. Intelligence would sit and think all day, nothing accomplished, passive behavior. Passion would be going in every direction, having polar opposites and without cohesion, insane behavior. Ying and Yang, being equals and opposites, creates a system of balance that promotes longevity. The marriage of Intelligence and Passion is the driving force we all share: To save mankind and create a better future.

We were given an operating manual [Holy Bible]. Any questions or confusion will be clarified by the Holy Spirit.

Yes, The Bible is a fine place to start though the level of each person's consciousness may determine what they glean from it...

I would add that science is now a heavy supporter of theism. So yeah, bible plus evidence for me.

Rob Ward, are you referring to the quantum science?

@Max_Tinkle
One wonderful aspect of God's inspired Word is that it gives us ALL we need to function as visitors on this physical plane of existence. Thats the 'Good News' of Christ's ultimate sacrifice and resurrection for His creation. Its more than a "fire escape", it provides us with all we need for living a Godly life and to prepare us for eternity with our Lord.

Well, I think partly an answer to that is we hold separate focal points of value that has the proclivity to solving a problem.

Thanks OOC, with due respect can you express that again in layman's terms for me [ who's not an intellectual ] Regards

@Max_Tinkle It seems to me that the way people fundamentally think problems are solved and how well the system is set up right now determines their ideology. For example, there are people who think problems are solved on the level of the individual, and this tends to a more democratic ideology. And in some similar manner, some people believe that problems are solved mainly on the level of the government, and this is more of an authoritarian ideology. Same thing goes for how well they believe the current system is set up, corrupt leading radicalism, and managable leading to conservatism. Also, of course these beliefs change over time and across problems, but their ideology can be predicted by the way they predominantly view how problems are solved and how corrupt our system is. I could go into religion if your interested, but I thought this would be concise.

Everything you said boils down to a lack of critical thinking and a lack of communication to me. Did I miss something? It seems you are a thinker and I appreciate your comments.

@7sails Why do you think that it boils down to a lack of critical thinking and communication?

The world is extremely divided now and communication is sound bites not conversation. The division has crossed into tribalism and that is basically a mob mentality.

@7sails Oh I see. Good point.

I would think that an ideology is not static and not necessarily well defined. It is not one choice but a journey that does not lead everyone to the same place. Religion is similar. More information and experience should shape a person's perspective. It differs in that there is a position of faith that shapes how information is received.

The biggest factor I have seen is they choose the religion that they were brainwashed with the fear of eternal damnation with. Some will change religion or become atheist but the majority just follow the same beliefs their parents raised them in.

I recommend reading The Rigteous Mind by Jonathan Heidt.

Will do thanks

Thanks JN, I've found that it's actually The Righteous Mind by Jonathan HAIDT.

@Max_Tinkle hahahaha yeah I wrote that comment too quickly... that's the one!

Its seems to me , a layman , that the most important factor that inform your ideas about the world we live in is the environment your raised in. Your parents extended family and community hold the most sway on a individuals views. For me a libertarian atheist from a deeply conservative/ Christian family and community the environment lead me to look more critical at the ideas of others and to be doubtful of people/institutions that have all the answers. I can't see if there is a way to tell witch way a person might go, zealot or a apostate. Maybe genetics maybe some other variables. Good question!

Interesting Lee, I've noticed that situations like your upbringing often lead to an opposite life path. I often wonder what makes a 'Conservative'. It seems such a non-creative lifestyle.

Max, no offense but there are plenty of conservatives that have created amazing things. I would guess everyone is liberal when it comes to family and friends. So a conservative is actually both.

No religion for me. As far as philosophy or politics go, based on my observations over the years I'm thoroughly convinced the Libertarian Party is the only political party that strikes a balance between liberal and conservative while focusing on maximum individual liberty.

Hello Spike. Seeing as the libertarian’s seem to have more in common with the conservatives than the liberals if they ran there own canadate for office it would only make it easy for the liberals to win. Just like when Ross Perot ran for president and caused Bush 41 to lose handing the election to Bill Clinton.

@Harleyman It might...

No religion for me as well. This is not about politics at all. This is about how God became God, the universe began and how it is composed. It is opposite the Big Bang Theory pretty much.

Classical Liberals and Libertarians are led by facts, everyone else by feelings.

Why do people do what they do? Why do they think the way they think?

I would hope that it is God Who leads people. Truth is what many of us desire, and He promises to lead us into all Truth.

and Love...

Everything we need is already here, provided by God. He gave us free will mixed with intelligence and desire. Exactly who's job is it to provide for you?
