Do you think libertarianism is the potential key in bringing those on the political left and right together for civil discussions?

Libertarianism is never going to appeal to the left, because at best it’s just a less anachronistic conservatism, at worst it’s proto-fascist.

I wish people would just drop it honestly, it’s simply not a serious ideology.

The Left can't accept individualism. They can't conceive of small government, equal playing fields that (lord help them understand) might result in bell curve distributions. To be "liberal" (not classically so) requires a belief in the coercive power of the State.

For Libertarians and Leftists, that's a No-Fly zone.

I can see the Libertarians accepting conservatives and vice-versa much more readily.

Maybe after Trump's out and they can get a globalist back in lol.

No. The left today has no interest in civil discourse...or any discourse that disagrees with their particular point of view. From what I've seen in the last few years, they are only interested in name calling and screaming racist.

Possibly, due to an air of non-judgment, or, willingness to listen. Provided, of course, that "liberty" can be agreed upon by both "parties", as a goal.

Libertarians are non judgemental?

Libertarianism in the form of Ayn Rand is off putting to the left, but libertarianism in the form of classic liberalism represents large swaths of the left and right. We can probably mostly agree to a John Stewart Mill type social arrangement.

The communitarians in the form of socialists on the left and social conservatives on the right wag the dog to prevent this common agreement. This is where the outrage culture comes from.

Nope. Libertarianism is essentially a (very) right wing philosophy that puts the individual first (and the role of the state is limited). The left (and more so the more left you go) - puts the collective / group over the individual and believe in government intervention to deliver outcomes. Accordingly, can’t see how it will help at all (sadly)

Absolutely. ...For thinking people. However, it is far easier to let others tell one what to think and it is usually packaged so nicely...

The Right will listen to libertarians, but if they are to bring in the left, they must show compassion for the under privileged.

You make a fair point Sir.

We libertarians do not lack empathy for those who struggle in life, and believe that's where private charities can help make a difference. Additionally, we also sympathize with the left on the social-based issues such as women's reproductive rights/fair treatment of lgbt individuals/legalizing recreational drugs/questioning how effective capital punishment really is/and keeping religion out of politics just to name a few. Summed up, libertarian= fiscally and constitutionally conservative and socially liberal, the best of both worlds.

I hope so--I'm not politically acute and still learning about Libertarianism. On the other hand, I think it's the lunatic radical left like AOC that's uniting the center left and center right. I disagree with my center right friends on a few issues but we can always have rational discussions with each other. Most of the far left only know how to label and scream.

Summed up, libertarian equals fiscally and constitutionally conservative while being socially liberal. I'd recommend checking out The Libertarian Manifesto for more information, the PDF should be available online.
