With my ex-stepson, I asked him what his plans were the following year after he graduates high school.
He said he was just thinking of working at his job and relaxing for a few months while he figured it out.
I said to him this:
You have three choices, one you go to college, two you sign up for the military, and if do not choose one of those two, while we are at your graduation I am going to have your uncle Virgil come in and pack all your stuff up waiting for you on the porch because you better have a place to live because you will not be living with us.
He laughed saying how that was funny, I told him to try me and see what happens.
That weekend he told his uncle Virgil what I said to him thinking he was going to be on his side, his uncle agreed with me, and he added that he will even volunteer to drive him to his new place or take him directly to the recruitment office.
What happened: the boy chose college and found out he got his Bachelors in IT.
I was not going to let him ruin his life by waiting to figure it out.
One thing that helped was that he knew me and his uncle was not joking and were serious.
It is amazing when he was given a time-limit how he figured out what he wanted to do pretty quick.
