The only way to stop the threat is an overwhelming coalition with a strong U.S. economy leading. It's the decline of U.S. hegemony that is similar to the decline of the British empire that are creating conditions that lead to WWI.

one thing about Trump that worries me is his dealings w/China and N Korea. Both are fraught with cataclysmic peril and I don't know that Trump has or had any good advisors on how to manage that.
I think whatever Kissinger has to say about US/Sino relations is worthy of attention.
