There are many who debate the relative merits of love v hate. But what they don't understand is that these two things are not equal opposites. Hate is destructive and pushes out love; hate damages the hater more than the hated; hate is a passive emotion that is only acted upon through rage, another form of self-destruction. Love, on the other hand, builds up both the one who loves and the object of that love; love is an action verb, denoting the effort to create an environment in which the object of that love can grow to maximum potential. If given the choice between love and hate, I always chose love.
