Went to the shooting range yesterday for the first time since March and was surprised to see that it was waiting room only for a lane and that they were pretty much sold out of weapons and ammo. I am not sure if this is because people fear that Biden might win this fall, or people are concerned for their safety because of the defund the police movement, or a combination of both. Does anyone have any insight on this phenomenon?

Ammo shortages and gun shortages everywhere in the states. At the very least if Biden wins he will try and impose ridiculous taxes on ammo, in addition to trying to ramrod more useless gun control measures through. We saw this when Obama was elected. Right when the plandemic hit ammo started flying off the shelves like toilet paper. As for the range, I think a lot of them are employing fewer lanes right now as well. The way I see it, the more guns and ammo sold the better, but it is frustrating to not be able to find anything right now.

i was expecting some social distancing on the range,, especially here in Harris County , TX , but that wasn’t the case, all 20 lanes were full. Also, when i was looking online to buy, I noticed there is some price gouging going on and not just a few dollars but a couple hundred for certain hand guns, which really pissed me off.

yes - panic buying is the new normal - I hate that saying but it does apply - don't you think so?
Personally I would never wait for a shooting lane. I do NOT like being on a shooting line where every lane is occupied - that is far too many people with guns in a relatively small area and there is no way to know who or how many of them are just - well - stupid with a gun in his hand - if you know what I'm saying.
Don't know where you live and I don't know your personal situation but surely you can find a better place to do your shooting that that.

I am in Texas and I definitely have better places to shoot, but I took a membership at this place about a year ago because I live in the city and its a nice close place to stop in at lunch to shoot. I have to laugh because I was thinking exactly what you wrote while I was there, because by their excitement you could tell there was a number of rookies shooting and keeping the range officer busy.

What I find strange about panic buying is that seems to happen every Presidential election and when there is a school shooting, you would think the masses would be well armed by now.

@dman424 I understand the convenience of a range you can use during your lunch hour. No doubt that has worked well for you until now when every yay hooo and his sister jumped into the "gun culture" during the panic. While I am a lifelong member of NRA and hold the 2A near and dear I also believe that while everyone has the "Right" to own a gun - not everyone "Should" own or possess a gun. Many of them should be nowhere near a gun. Guns and stupidity/incompetency often lead to fatal results IMHO.
We never had panic buying of guns, ammo, toilet paper relative to general elections until Obama came along. Not that I remember.
Hopefully if and when all this blows over our 2A will be intact. Hopefully gov't won't intrude any more than they already have on our ownership and use of guns. The bastards!

@iThink I agree there a lot of people out there that shouldn’t have a gun and for many different reasons, but because the 2A is constantly under assault by the Dems, you really can’t put laws on the books to limit anyone’s right, or the Dems will use it as precedent to make stiffer laws that infringe on everyone’s 2A rights. For that reason there will never be an honest debate on how you can limit access or at a minimum require people to prove they know how to use the weapons they are purchasing..
