One of the things I dislike about IDW community - the set up where literally every new post shows up on one main page regardless it being posted "in a group"...sort of negates the necessity for having "groups" in the first place.
This forces users to wade through countless new posts which are of little or no interest to them.
I would like to see IDW community become more curated. As it is now I would be ok if we had the ability to mark posts as "Not interested" in order to move them off the main page without having to open them rather than to have to open Posts in order to force them out of view. I don't like that. Do you?

Curation is the luxury of large platforms, in fact it is a necessity. Slug wishes to get there, but it isnt there yet. Anything that boosts activity is the correct choice.

I understand - just wanted to sound off about all the crap that shows up on the main page.

I thought that I was just using it wrong! I agree to a certain extent. Maybe posts are prioritised, but posts that are deemed 'similar' to the posts in your groups could be displayed as 'posts that you might also be interested in..'. This gives you an opportunity to discover groups that you are not yet subscribed to, but might be interested in.

I like it!

🙂

I'm still new, so trying to figure it all out. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it also seems that IDW and Slug.com are the same thing?

The problem with 'down grading' posts is that it becomes a way to silence differing viewpoints. Using a comment count to 'promote' a post seems more useful.

I used TweetDeck on Twitter early in Twitter's existance to filter the, at the time, huge flow of tweets. It worked well, till Twitter bought and basically destroyed all the supporting apps. It made Twitter unmanageable. At the current and trending size of IDW/Slug, I don't see a problem with the home page, but it could become unmanagable if it grew expontentially quickly.

you know I would not be for silencing anyone

@iThink I agree, and I would not either - but I think we've probably been around long enough to know that it happens and often.

@tracycoyle just because I might choose to ignore some posts does not necessarily mean that I am "trying to silence" anyone.
In fact on the few occasions where I was give the choice to approve or to disapprove of some comments here on IDW I have ALWAYS AND WITHOUT HESITATION approved...and believe me there have a few with which I profoundly disagree.

@iThink Sorry, didn't mean to imply such - I ignore LOTS of posts and comments. My comment was with the idea of 'down grading' posts by active intent that can be, not suggesting you would, by people. I doubt 99% of the people here would have that intent, but as the community grows, so does the potential for abuse of such a system.

Again, NO INTENT to suggest YOU would do such a thing.

@tracycoyle NO offense was taken - I understood you perfectly no worries. I was making the larger point that on a site such as this with hundreds/thousands? posts arriving every day there are some that are not worthy of my time or yours.

One of the things I very much like about You tube is that it is easy know if a posted vid is something I might be interested in - BEFORE I open it.
Here, many posts are vaguely titled and once opened lots of them are nothing more than a hot link to a you tube vid or some other sourced platform.
I still think it would be a welcome feature to most folks here to be able to hit a "not interested" button just to get it out of the way.
Sure I might miss something but the benefit of uncluttering the morass of posts IMHO outweighs the unknowable loss of having missed one or two that I might have found interesting. Just my 2 cents worth...that's all. 🙂

Does not seem to me that there are enough posts to make groups.

This place has several options for how to view it. I like that an option exists to see all new posts, and to see all new comments to posts, and to see only posts to your own groups. I wish it was possible to see only stuff that's interesting to me, but then I'd miss so much.

There are at least a couple of things I wouldn't much miss.....

Good points... I'll throttle down how many non-group posts show up in the main feed. I agree that they should be picked specifically for broad appeal.

I cannot always make out on the main page what a post is about and then open to see it is some anti-jew crap or some bible study I could not care less about.

Oh, my, what an eliteist.... your not for divertisty or believe that diversity is perversity?

@johnlondon

That’s right, I always see you comment on the Buddhist group and are so active with the Hindi.

Did I say those post should not be allowed?
Did I say anything about diversity?

I said I don’t care for them and don’t want to waste my time opening them

Hypocrite...

@johnlondon @hanno

Calling out flagrant anti-Semitism makes him elitist? @johnlondon you must be kidding.
