Why do academics consistently get things Wong, from economists to sociology’s though to the humanities and modern approaches to science?

Is it purely self importance, ignorance and out of touchiness with reality, are they to separated form the general population to full view life and the world around?

Why are there no generalists anymore? You know the people that could bring discipline together and derive a sound theory and analysts as well as apply it? What happened those valuable people that could get things done?
