ON MY HUMANIST MANIFESTO
This late in my life I have now come to realize that I must be able to focus on how and where do I stand today, in what I have been calling this Age of Rage or Age of Confusion. I want to share this with you. The truth for me is that I have come to a simple REVELATION: I am not liberal or conservative, not left or right. I am simply a Humanist who lives by LOVE THY NEIGHBOR Rule. And, yes, I admit it is too simple and too naive. But, please permit me to elaborate just a bit.

What does this mean? It means that I live as an individual, free to exercise my own thinking. I reject to live as an indoctrinated puppet of any political identity. I will vote according to my understanding as to who fits closest to my values and principles. I will work with the system we inherited from the long human journey to our current civilization, to improve it, not to destroy it. I will support notions to the left (eg. equity) or the right (eg pro-choice). I care for the environment, I value safety, law and order. I oppose riots and violence even when facing injustice. I admire those who show mercy more than those who govern "by the book". I could go on, but my point is simply this: as a civilized human being, I am a humanist and I evaluate issues on their individual merits using The Golden Rule as my yardstick.

No human is perfect. We all have our own shortcomings. Know thyself first. The one who wants to judge others must first look at own self before you can pass judgment on others. One fatal error most humans commit is thinking that they have a monopoly on truth. History has shown us this is never the case.

I urge all of us not to succumb to identity politics. The only way to return to the Mainstream Human Journey is to exercise similar revelation in YOUR life. Be a Humanist, whether you are a person of faith or not. Be a Humanist whether you are a man or a woman or whatever gender pronouns you chose. Be a Humanist whether your like one school of arts and culture or another, one type of music or another. Be a Humanist whether you like to be an urban dweller or a rural one. Be a Humanist whether you favor old history or recent history, one "ism" or another "ism". Just make sure that as a Humanist you MUST have a yardstick to evaluate your individual preferences and idiosyncrasies. Just make sure you know you are not perfect or own the truth. The human journey took centuries and centuries of evil things, like wars, slavery and famine but also incredible innovations, discoveries, cultural marvels and beautiful music. For today, I truly believe that the only yardstick I know is the one that first came to us from so far back as the Hammurabi code of almost 4000 years ago and culminated with the Human Bill of Rights and Freedoms of the United Nations.

Human Bill of Rights of the United Nations?

What do you mean by equity? I’ve not figured out the many nuanced uses...

Is there a reason why you borrow from a Christian worldview, yet are not Christian?

That’s what a lot of us were marching for in the sixties.
