Peyote never set well with me. Tried it many times in ceremonies. But it is great for some. It healed a skin rash I had.

interesting thought there. Is "Truth" necessarily an objective thing?

That's a great question, and I'm not the one with the answer to it.

Anyone expecting "truth" in a human institution, church or not, will be disappointed. Truth is only in God, (not psychedelics) and the closest we can be is in relationship with God, through Jesus Christ; the ONLY way to God.

Human belief is a human institution. The truth about God is immutable, and He has placed clues here for us to get - kinda like a scavenger hunt. So equating human belief systems to God's reality is like a childs game.

The concept of God is itself a human idea. And then subject to all the foibles that go with that category.
