I drive a school bus and everything listed I agree with. I love the children but I have 72 registered to ride the bus. Capacity is 70. Every day there are two or three who don't get on the bus, but one day I might have to call dispatch and say I can't drive because I am over capacity. I give the children as much freedom as I can and I tell them I am taking them to jail every day. They object but I tell them the teachers are correctional officers and the principal is the warden. How I keep discipline is I mass punish. If something happens in a certain area, I move the whole area to the front of the bus for a few days. Peer pressure works charms and by the time they are allowed to return to their places, I know the perpetrator has been disciplined by his peers. I am retired and have driven school buses for about 14 years, but this will be my final year. They now have installed GPS trackers on our buses to "protect the drivers". BS! They track how much my bus idles, force me to complete my run even if I have run out of students, it records when I put on the student lights and open the door! Enough. I used to detour to drive students to their doors, where I could in stormy weather (customer service). Now I can be fired. Not only is the bus company doing this, there is a bureaucratic level at the school board monitoring drivers. Sometimes I forget to leave my brain at home before I begin to drive. Don't make any decisions, call dispatch. I cannot even walk down the aisle in case someone says I touched them "physically or sexually". Hope the children love the driverless buses coming with 5G.
