Howdy @kresica, I took a lot of anatomy & physiology courses in college. The bone density problem during spaceflight intrigued me so I followed it closely. I saw a lot of mentions of the problem, but no articles about cure. Nonetheless, all the space agencies and space entrapeneurs are going ahead with deep space mission planning. I don't know what extra data they have. As for women's cycles synching with lunar phases... Let's see, Phobos orbital period is almost 8 hours. If they synch with that, they could have PMS 3 times a day. I've been married for almost 43 years now. And Yep, that's par for the course right here on Earth. Whereas if they synched with Deimos, that would mean PMS every 30 hours. That could be an improvement. Personally, I think they already synch with Martian cycles...

timon_phocas comments on Jun 11, 2019:
A clitoris is extremely sensitive. It has very dense nerve and vascular connections. A clitorectomy is agonizingly painful for days. In this way it is like a circumcision (which is why circumcisions are almost exclusively done on newborns). A clitoris is essential for female orgasm. A woman without a clitoris can have some sexual pleasure, but no orgasm. Which is one reason why it's called female genital mutilation. The other reason is that clitorectomies are mostly done by the functional equivalent of witch doctors. Read Ayan Hirsi Ali's autobiography.

Another reason is pejorative, but that'll take another essay.

timon_phocas comments on Jun 9, 2019:
I posted this because it has a different conclusion than I heard on Brian Suits, "Dark Secret Place" broadcast. Brian Suits said the Hamas rocket barrage was more successful because their rockets were crudely made and ballisticly unpredictable. This gave Iron Dome's system false solutions. StrategyPage says the size and mix of Hamas rocket and mortar barrages overwhelmed Iron Dome Batteries. This can be fixed with more batteries, but those could be overwhelmed, too. New technology is needed. Perhaps rail gun, perhaps lasers.

[mateenelass.wordpress.com] Can Islam Be Defeated?
timon_phocas comments on Jun 7, 2019:
According to my reading, most people become alienated from political Islam because of intrusive lifestyle enforcement. Burkas, arranged marriages, restrictions on women's careers, censorship, prohibitions on mixed gender events... The list goes on and on. I believe political Islam's weakness lies here. It is a campaign of ideas and ideals, not armies. After China evicted the Mongols they sent Buddist missionaries to them. They converted them to a more pacific religion and haven't been bothered by them since. In the Reformation France was a "battleground state." The Jesuits sent playwrights to Paris to write plays in which free will was extolled over predestination. John Calvin might have unassailable logic, but the Jesuits delivered their theology as entertainment. For more recent history, look at the CIA's involvement in postwar Italy. The Italian Communists were the largest single party following Mussolini's downfall. The CIA realized it was a battle of ideals, so they subsidized democracy in Italy's marketplace of ideas. Newspapers, radio programs, movies, political parties; anything that promoted freedom and democracy received a subsidy from investors whose deep pockets were the CIA's. President Al Sisi of Egypt says Islam must change. Egypt's Al Azahr University is the most prestigeous university in the Sunni Muslim world. Egypt is the center of the Arab media world. Egyptian Arabic is the Modern Standard Arabic used in literature and media throughout rhe Arabic world. Sounds like a good place to start changing Arabic ideals.

Leftists became hostile to Israel when Palestinians became one of their favored victim groups. Since Muslim Palestinians' hatred of Jews is not limited to Israelis, this began to seep into society. Increasing Muslim influence in America also increased anti-Semitic propaganda. Since all Muslims are now a leftist favored victim group, criticizing anti-Semitic propaganda is considered hate speech.

Double decker aircraft, like the largest Airbus, can't use current terminal equipnent. Or not easily. There's market resistance. Now it's not so easy to do. Too many airports to retrofit. This design would allow for larger planes while using existing equipment at terminals. Better for business.

Angry with the fact it's wildly successful and liberal channels are loss leaders. They're angry the fairness doctrine was overturned and conservative talk was allowed. Angry that it dominates radio. Angry it's wildly profitable. Angry that liberal talk goes bankrupt. So no, I'm not surprised they're angry about the internet. Way too many smelly WalMart shoppers providing content.
Why don't we hold Moses the same as we do Jesus?
timon_phocas comments on Jun 3, 2019:
"Christ" comes from the Greek word for "annointed." "Messiah" comes from the Hebrew word for "annointed." Modern English has invested these words with rather specific religious connotations. In the Old Testament to be annointed meant you were divinely chosen for a task. It did not mean unique relationship to the Godhead. In Jeremiah 27 God calls Nebuchadnezzar "my servant," the same words used to describe Moses. Nobody equates Moses and Nebuchadnezzar. God used both as servants, but their relationships to God were very different.

They honestly believe the Iran deal is their legacy, thier finest accomplishment. It is, of course, which is what makes it so sad. Nuclear weapons are an eighty year old technology. It is a complex, hideously expensive project but if North Korea can do it, so can Iran. Revolutionary Iran always had a nuclear weapons program and they always lied about it. The fatal weaknesses of the Iran nuclear deal are that it accepted the legitimacy of the Iranian weapons program and coupled it with an inspection regime controlled by Iran. Its goal was not to prevent nuclear weapons from being developed, but to delay their advent until Obama was out of office. Like so many of Obama's "accomplishments," it was all publicity and posturing.

The marketing people at Nordstroms come from universities, which are (in effect) secular seminaries. They watch liberal/progressive media. They are focusing on a core group of upscale female shoppers (who tend to share their views). Of course they are going to use themes that reflect their worldview. When the same kind of marketing people tried this at Dick's Sporting Goods it failed. Why? Because their core shoppers aren't liberal women. We live in an age of foolishness. It is not unique in history. As the prophet Jeremiah said, make a choice, walk in the old paths of faith and wisdom. You can escape the foolishness of the age.

timon_phocas comments on May 30, 2019:
It is not covered because it does not fit the world view of the news media. Not only is it a bad fit, but it contradicts their world view. It said that Ian Smith (head of the old Rhodesian government) was being cheered on the streets of Harare. South Africa is wealthier, but the same pattern of kleptocracy is playing out. Elites get the banks, factories and mineral resources. Agitators break up the farms using racial hatred to distract the masses. And lastly, the people get the shaft.

Mueller's job was to postpone discussion of the Obama Administration's systematic use of national intelligence agencies on behalf of the Democratic Party. Proof for this lies in the text messages exchanged between Lisa Paige and Peter Stzrok. They sent texts saying they knew there was no evidence of collusion when the Mueller Probe was only a couple of months old. And yet Mueller's investigation ground on for nearly two more years. This is old news. Drew Pearson and Jack Anderson printed this info in their daily column called "Washington Merry-Go-Round" back in the early 1970s. J. Edgar Hoover hated womanizers and communists. Martin Luther King Jr. was a womanizer and he accepted help from communists. Hoover had King's movement infiltrated and bugged. King's womanizing is actually beside the point. African Americans had deep, legitimate, long standing grievances with America. They could have started a bloody revolution. They could have have started a jihad. Instead, Martin Luther King Jr. started a movement that offered a way forward for both blacks and whites. And it worked. Not perfectly, but we all moved forward. I thank God that Martin Luther King Jr. (flawed as he was was) called us to our highest ideals.

If they can do it, how can we stop other nuclear weapons programs? OTOH, the countries pushing hardest for nuclear weapons are fascistic police states constantly threatening neighbors and the US. North Korea has extorted economic aid and food for decades using its nukes. Iran promises to exterminate Israel every day. It does the same for the US, while testing ICBMs to use as the wherewithal.

In '69-70 they said we would run out of oil in the 1990s. I watched it on the news, read it in magazines. Dang, I must be pumping espresso in my pickup... I read Paul Erlich's "Population Bomb" about 1970. He predicted nuclear war because of resource starvation. Kind of glad he was wrong, lead umbrellas are really heavy. Rachel Carlson's "Slient Spring" predicted ecological collapse and horrifying famines. Instead, we got Jenny Craig diet franchises In 1973 the news media were agog about the coming ice age. Or should I say, ICE AGE!! I was upset because I invested heavily but the snowshoe industry failed to take off. In the 1980s we had the twin spectres of acid rain and ozone holes. Acid rain would turn all ponds and lakes into acid bouillobaise and holes in the ozone layer would let in too much radiation. That was actually kind of nice because we'd all die of skin cancer before the fishing got bad. And, of course, in the 1990s the same people marching against global cooling did an about face and started screaming about global warming. Dang, I was still hoping that snowshoe thing would finally pay off. There's so much more to I could say, but you get the point. It's all been a march of folly.

From what I've read, this is as good a time as any to address trade issues with China. We're at full employment, the economy is hitting on all cylinders. China, OTOH, has to continue economic growth in order to keep rolling over its enormous backlog of non-performing loans. Growth won't happen if China's trade with the US shrinks. If the balance of trade was closer to even, both sides would hurt equally. But it's not. China runs a $500B trade surplus with the US. Unlike like my Dad saying, "this will hurt me more about than it hurts you.", this really will hurt China more. The Chinese Communist Party has lost its ideological basis for ruling. Xi Jenping is trying to re-establish that. But for now the CCP relies on its success in growing prosperity and growing the prestige of China as a great power. We'll have ro see which path forward Xi Jinpeng takes.
Comey's believe-ability

Saint James is the most patriotic patriot who ever patriotically subverted justice, perjured himself and then wrote a best selling book about it. And virtuous, too! ohh! Just ask him and he'll go on and on and on about his virtuosity at being virtuous. And ethics! Why he can lie more ethically than anyone else in Washington. Yes, Saint James is believed by one and all. Well, except for those narrow-minded, smelly WalMart shoppers who believe that telling the truth actually involves, well... um... telling the truth.
Today's theme: Does workplace diversity improve company performance?
timon_phocas comments on May 10, 2019:
A diversity of approaches helps resolve problems. I don't think that necessarily means a diversity of EEOC categories. Forbes' assertion about diversity equating to profitability reminds me of a classic example taught in statistics classes. Folklore in Germany is that a stork building a nest on your chimney will ensure fertility for your house. In the 1930s a headline trumpeted statistical proof for the folklore. People hosting storks had more babies! Magic was true! The truth was that people WANTING large families would build nesting platforms on their chimneys. Storks built nests on the platforms because it was easier. I imagine the parents did other things that actually increased their family size. They became a classic example of a self selecting population in statistics classes ever since. When companies become successful they hire human resources managers who put equal opportunity procedures in place to comply with government regulations. They become a self selecting population.
It’s become clear where election meddling is coming from.

I took EMT training before nursing school. We took two shifts at the local hospital Emetgency Department. There I saw the results of accidents and fights, along with acute illness. Then they sent us for a shift at Denver Health's ED. It's famed as the "Knife and Gun Club." And there I saw patient after patient. African-Americans with bodies like Greek statues with holes in them.As Billy Sunday famously said, "It's Saturday night, but Sunday's on the way." And so it was.

"I am the way, the truth and the life; no man comes to the Father but by me..." This claim is both universal and exclusive. It is at the heart of what Christianity offers the world. It also makes it irreconcilable with other religions. If Christianity abandons this claim, then we become just another variety of Jacqueline Quenault ("every day in every way I'm getting better and better"); another self improvement society.

One of the points made is that the Iron Dome system has much less time to react to very short range missiles. Perhaps they should consider mixing in American C-RAM batteries. They're based on the Navy's Phalanx close-in anti-missile system. C-RAM is used to keep Bagdahd's Green Zone safe from rocket, artillery and mortar fire.

Right now polls are just a name-recognition quiz. And Biden benefits from a lot of favorable hype from the establishment media outlets. Great, so did Hillary in 2008 and 2016. But ability to motivate the base comes into play in the primaries. Hillary almost lost a fixed nomination race to Sanders because she couldn't excite the base. It was also a big part of her loss to Trump. So don't bet the farm on Slow Joe winning the derby just yet.

timon_phocas comments on May 4, 2019:
There's an old Chinese proverb about prophecy being difficult, especially when it deals with the future. Sometimes prophetic predictions are used both to foretell events and to establish a pattern of how God deals with His people. For example Daniel foretold a wicked conqueror defiling rhe Holy of Holies (accomplished by Antiochus Epiphanies). Jesus also forteold this kind of defilement in the context of the end times. But Daniel 9:25 seems to deal with Persian Kings' orders to rebuild Jerusalem and the Temple. It also seems to refer to Ezra and Nehemiah's fulfillment. Did the Knessett order the Temple rebuilt in 1969?

Alan Dershowitz, no conservative stalwart, says no president can be charged for obstruction of justice for exercising powers given the president in article two of the Constitution. Firing subordinate members of the executive branch is one such power. He cites two relevant cases as proof. One is against Nixon the other against George H.W. Bush. Nixon suborned purjury, paid hush money and destroyed evidence. George H.W. Bush pardoned Cap Weinberger. Nixon's actions were criminal, not constitutional. Bush's pardon of Cap Weinberger is included as a presidential power in the Constitution. Alan Dershowitz' article does not address motive but the law. https://thehill.com/opinion/criminal-justice/441726-alan-dershowitz-barr-is-right-mueller-is-wrong
