This post comes from a conversation I am having with Krunoslav.
govols comments on Sep 16, 2020:
This is the conversation we'll be having as AI and automation turn more and more of us into obsolete production equipment. I have a sick idea that this is what's driving globalism, and the idea of stacking us like cord.wood into mega-cities, and the targets toward population reductions and sustainable development.

So we decided to explore how wisdom (philosophy) relates to psychology.
govols comments on Sep 15, 2020:
You're kinda embracing the new role, aren't you? I've been on this for a bit, the whole free will and behavioral conditioning. I'm not sure where it's taking me yet. It feels like science is wrong about free will and Theory is wrong about constructionism. It feels like their is a human mind that exceeds the biological processes of the brain dealing with environmental stimuli. It feels like a weird mix of individual conscience as emergent from the phenomenological human experience of the expectations emanating from the culture within which the individual is formed. I am a product of my raising, but within the framework of that reality I have a certain amount of control over how I will fit myself into society.
I was brought up by agnostic parents.

govols comments on Sep 14, 2020:
I'm not sure that keeping the faith is that hard for believers IF their faith is developed later in life, or if it survives through teens and twenties. My own experience is that, as children begin to lose "wonder," gain "science" and reason, it's easy to learn enough about the world to become doubtful that God is neither sufficient for nor necessary to an understanding of reality. As one gets deeper and deeper into reality, especially into relationships, science and reason begin to also seem less and less sufficient, though reason seems to remain at least relevant, and probably necessary. I guess what I'm saying is, if you maintain a grip on faith through your introduction to modern "knowing," or turn to faith as a result of realizing how inadequate modern "knowing" really is for emotional well-being, it only deepens the longer one accepts it and trusts in it...
When will Dr Jordan Peterson re-emerge?
govols comments on Sep 14, 2020:
I'm guessing he'll be back with his next book, but with a far lighter lecture load. I also think the next stage of his pondering is going to be more about "now that you have you own house in order, you must trust yourself to act in the world." There are a bunch of competent people in the world who are either afraid, or ignoring their obligation, to bravely and publicly express right and wrong when the world is moving in dire directions. I'm as guilty as anybody.

It seems like "cults" basically exist to regulate social behavior. Regulating mating habits among the cult members is probably socially necessary as population increases. govols comments on Sep 8, 2020:
I'm functioning almost as normal, but with far fewer hours at work. I go out to most of my usual haunts and mostly do all of my usual activities. Where I live most shopping is open but masks are requested. Some bars I enjoy are simply and fully ignoring the C-Fear virus and good times are enjoyed by most who enter. I'm planning to continue my diligence where keeping household supplies maxed out, saving where possible, and reading old books. The latter is probably contributing greatly to my sanity. The internet search algorithms being purposefully broken toward a twisted form of mind control basically drove me from news and current events, so that's probably been helpful, too. I really don't think about vaccine.
After some posts, I started wondering, what do you think I mean when I refer to "emotional strength"...
govols comments on Sep 7, 2020:
On one hand the ability to weather the experience of being. On another hand the ability to engage ideas intellectually, even while throwing up in your mouth a little. The phrase brings to mind having rather than being ones emotions.

What I've been pondering is whether, if one took fully from all nearly contemporaneous sources, and recreated a "historical" account of Jesus' deeds, compiled all of his reportedly original teachings, could it all be systematized into a philosophical presentation of the nature of the human condition as within a cultural framework. It isn't a project I've really seen attempted. Universal inborn racism?
govols comments on Aug 15, 2020:
The ideas involved are both deep and ancient, and shallow and "modern." The deep and ancient seem to me to be also the more subtle and comprehensive. The ancients had a totally different world than we do, but understood cause and effect, and by the 500-400s BC were looking for causes more worldly than "The gods did it." I'm trying to get through Plato's Republic and through it follow the search by Socrates for the meaning of Justice. In it, he and his friends are building a mental model of a society that would by it very form result in a people constructed by intent to be at least absent of injustice. It's a screwed up society by our conceptions, but it pretends toward much of what the progressive project is attempting today. Of the shallow and "modern" ideas that're rejected by ancient assumption, two big ones are "blank slate" and "noble savage." Like, they formulate a fiction that divides people into iron, bronze, silver or gold souls, each with different potentialities. Iron souls are never going to make great leaders. The potential of gold souls is wasted when allowed or forced to slave away at the tasks more suited to an iron or bronze soul. The prevent the injustice of poor leadership of the city as a whole, those unfit to lead are fed a fiction to make them proud of the contributions that they can and do make. Also, and just as, or more importantly, it becomes critical to watch the children of each generation for indications of mis-born souls--souls born to stations to which they poorly suited. They actually design for identifying malicious or magnanimous mutants within the various classes and provide for upward and downward mobility. We're not blank slates; we must be trained to the benefit of the social good, but only toward maximizing each member of society given the nature to which each is individually vested. Individual natural ability rather than lineage. The iron or bronze soul can't be transformed by education and social alchemy into a golden soul with the natural nobility that could be developed into a leader with a great concern for justice. They had the good sense to understand that we ARE constructed by society, AND we also have individual natures, AND we have universal desires and needs, AND that in a just society there must be limits upon some while others must be elevated. They also understood some degree of complexity was required, and provided for the fact that a functional society had to have traders, had to have merchants, craftsmen, artist, farmers, teachers, soldiers, leaders... It needed institutions designed to identify the potential of individuals and to instill into the citizenry a certain pride of place stemming from a real institutional effort to elevate each to his fullest possible station. To bring this ...

govols comments on Aug 13, 2020:
There's no way to untangle this one. Not just slavery, or colonization, none of this stuff is reparable. I can't put a finger on where exactly it all came together, but the colonial American Declaration of Independence serves as a place holder for a new world unlike any previous condition of humanity. Nobody asks Alexander's heirs to repent for the benefit his conquests granted them. The Persians didn't embody a stained humanity for Empire. Mongolia isn't held in contempt for the reign of terror committed by the Khans. The Caliphates aren't condemned for 400 years of expansion. The history of civilization is one of conquest and enslavement going back thousands of years, and the idea of restorative justice across generations was unheard of except among "barbarian" clans and tribes. I can't touch the moment the paradigm changed, but somewhere in the late-middle-ages elements of European philosophy and theology were developing a new standard by which its own condemnation would be argued. Somehow "The West" managed to envision a potentiality for civilization in and era that predated any possibility for that potential to be actualized. It's against that potentiality that every actual manifestation of "The West" since has come to be judged. And only "The West." From this perspective "history" seems to begin with the Crusades, remembered today as a Christian assault upon Islam rather than an ongoing culture war that extends back into prehistory. America was the first people to attempt to actualize that potential, but from within a framework of a prior age's historical reality. It was a first step from a flawed condition to a less-flawed one, but ever since, judgment is waged from a moral high ground that's built on the shoulders of the very societies presently under condemnation.

We MUST demand that the woke shut the fuck up wherever any such question is raised. We all knew, until about a minute ago, the humans come in two sexes, with only the rarest of exceptions. Now, that said, most cultures, until about 10 minutes ago (social scale, not individual scale) understood that the roles that men and women change and develop across time, culture, and social need. The only constant that has ever existed where differential social roles within a culture are REQUIRED is that women will be responsible for bearing the next generation, and men better fucking protect them AND THE CHILDREN during the process, right up until the children grow the fuck up and do it all over again. In current year, children don't have to play with dolls or hunt small game to practice how to rear children or provide for them. Boys can wear makeup and dresses, still grow up to father children or not, and the social fabric can remain perfectly functional even IF very different than the one we're used to. It's okay for boys to be sissies and girls to be toms. Society can deal with that. Society can NOT deal with the spread of non-reality into its efforts to deal with children attempting the ride into maturity in a totally incomprehensibly shifter set of social expectations. Conservatives need to grow the fuck up and have the conversation about the socio-cultural expectations put upon girls and boys, and liberals need to shut the fuck up about biological sex.
