Interesting. The Bible confirms this idea in at least a couple of places. We are often guilty of the very same thing we "judge" others for (Romans 2:1) and Philippians 4:8 .."whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, THINK ON THESE THINGS."

dmatic comments on Jul 3, 2019:
This is a profound post, John. Thank you. It says a lot about the quality of your character. I am impressed. You want to love people and you want to esteem them and respect them. But, as you have found out, people are often "unloveable", because they exhibit hypocrisy or other unesteemable qualities. You have correctly pointed out that the Trump Derangement Syndrome is characterized by hate and you don't want anyone to be infected with the poison. That is love. But, love is not done teaching you about itself. Anybody can love those who are 'loveable', and those who love them back. The depth of love requires us to love even the unloveable, and those who appear to be our enemies! I am confident you already know this....so, carry on. Someday, all will be friends and we will all agree with our Creator. I really must re-read the Pinocchio story...Thanks

Love this short article! "The fruits of life in a free world". Great reminder of some of the basics that sometimes get lost or taken for granted as people try to understand and appreciate the blessings of life in a free world. Last paragraph spoke to me: "These are the fruits of life in a free world. Products and industries crop up in response to ideas, innovations, and the desires of the masses. This removes the need for the majority of us to cultivate the skills for constructing things. It also requires no person or people to instruct or direct the process. Frequently described as spontaneous order, it is an essential component of free market capitalism." Spontaneous order. Interesting, never heard of that before. Thanks for posting it!

Capital punishment is serious. But, so are the crimes that would carry a death penalty. Capital punishment was and is established by God, the Author of life. i.e. Gen 9:6...whosoever sheds the blood of another, by man, his blood shall be shed. The "state", or man, cannot in the case of a murder, restore the life of the victim. The death penalty, though, turns the accused over to God to be judged properly. No one wants any court in the world to convict someone wrongly, for anything. No death penalty case can be tried except on the testimony of at least two witnesses. The death penalty establishes the sanctity of life. By taking another's life, one forfeits his own. Just and impartial. If you don't want the state, or man, to kill you, don't kill anyone else!

Not sure I understand why you think a 'culture war' can only be waged by either a victimhood culture or an honor culture. Presently, am just now reading Haidt's book, "The Righteous Mind" (Just started the second chapter) One thing I agree with him on is his statement that we are all self-righteous and are hypocrites.
I find myself between classic liberalism and minarchism. You?
dmatic comments on Jun 22, 2019:
I'm still trying to understand classical liberalism, but when it comes to education, I do not believe government should be involved at all! If government is involved it is nothing more than indoctrination of a world view that makes the individual an enslaved candidate for reeducation! "Public" education is the liberty minded American's bane! So, I guess, according to that chart, I would be bewteen Anarchy and Minarchism...which is kinda scary! I even support common law courts....and a militia....and servant police...( not lord it over thugs).

He probably meant to say "per month" and "spread over all employees" but even that's not true. In California, the estimated cost is already $12 a week. And government programs grow." Any help understanding those numbers would be appreciated.

Bipartisan Senate effort predictably kills Rand Paul's plan to balance the Federal Budget.
dmatic comments on Jun 4, 2019:
From the article: [Most Republicans go back to their districts and say they support balanced budgets, Paul said on the Senate floor before the vote, "but they're not really for balanced budgets if they vote for budgets that don't balance." Paul also took aim at Democrats, who he accused of pushing for pie-in-the-sky spending plans that promise everything from free college tuition to greater government spending on health care and retirement entitlements. Those proposals will add trillions of dollars to the national debt or will require massive tax hikes, Paul said. "These proposals are ludicrous," said Paul. "We have so much debt from what we are already trying to give you, and these people want to double, triple, and quadruple that. It's a recipe for disaster."] Unsustainable, to be sure. Until the "tree" known as the Federal Reserve is cut down, we will not be able to survive "financially". But, of course, we have been sounding the alarm for years, and there seems to be no consequence, yet, for deficits and debt, save higher taxes and more deficit spending, as things seem to gone as 'usual'. So...the inevitable collapse is coming. Then, may God help us. Anybody watching the tragedy in Venezuela? Just a preview of what is going to happen here.

Never been a very big fan of George Will but he’s pretty spot on in this piece. What do you think?
dmatic comments on Jun 1, 2019:
I was tempted to copy and paste numerous quotes from Will's piece, but will settle on this: " Progressivism preaches confident social engineering by the regulatory state. Conservatism urges government humility in the face of society’s extraordinary — and creative — complexity. American society, understood as hundreds of millions of people making billions of decisions daily, is a marvel of spontaneous cooperation. Sensible government facilitates this cooperative order by providing roads, schools, police, etc., and by getting out of the way of spontaneous creativity. This is a dynamic, prosperous society’s “underlying social contract.” " One usually needs to be paying attention when reading Will's thoughts. He made some brilliant points about Government dependency, too. The book looks intriguing.
