@ThomasinaPaine "He wasn't the type of wear a mask so he could beat up old ladies. He didn't tolerate small business owners having their lives ruined by mostly edgy wanna be communist white kids." Those things accompanied his activism as well and he spoke about how they were not morally equivalent to their root causes. You seem to only see a sanitized version of the past and a demonized version of the present.

@ThomasinaPaine Judges who are more conservative than the public damage the legitimacy of government because the courts are an anti-democratic force. Trump has managed to fill the court with a historic number of his picks and they are a historically ideological cohort. Obama, in fact was blocked much of the time and made a historically small number of appointments.

@VoicesCarry It's not an antifascist symbol. It is literally the opposite. The only time an antifascist would be wearing it (making it technically a symbol on an antifascist) would be when they are forced to in a concentration camp. To be clear, no antifascist organizations use it. They use either the symbol with the flags or the three arrows of the Iron Front. Just because Trump says something doesn't make it so. Moreover, the context is that of antifascist political enemies on the left--the same type that the Nazis fought and imprisoned--how much more could it fit?

I assume you've read the title now. Next step is to watch the video or at least the parts that discuss the subject of the title and Lori. If you still don't get it, my initial reply provided some more context: I identified with the "they" in the title. Maybe take note of where my account says I'm from and where the subject of the video is from. If it still doesn't make sense, maybe that's because the author of the video doesn't know what they're talking about. Hence my confusion at how they characterized Lori and what's going on in her city.

If riots worked we wouldn't keep having them. Sometimes the reason that *peaceful means* don't get results, is because you're wrong. In a Democratic Republic, you have to convince a plurality of your fellow citizens that you're right, and your "demands" have to be Constitutional in the first ...

@rway Dude, there's a difference between the left and the centrist liberal establishment of the Democratic party. The left cares about class, too. The Great Society hit a brick wall in Nixon and then the neoliberal consensus of the next 50 years.

I think people are pretty much in favor of equal rights.
WilyRickWiles replies on Jun 15, 2020:
It's very common in this community to speak of people who are LGBTQ as mentally ill and unworthy of equal rights. And Trump's coalition with the religious right was banking on winning this case (and restricting abortion) so that religiously minded businesses could keep discriminating (and really most businesses don't mind having more discretion on when they can fire). Not to mention the heresy of Gorsuch using conservatives' "originalism" (or "textualism") toward liberal ends.

Resurrecting 3 year old memes, I see. Mr. Bell should get newer material. If you read the history of that statue and the circumstances surrounding its demise, the only real similarity between then and now is that people wanted change. Otherwise, it's pretty much an apples to oranges comparison.
WilyRickWiles replies on Jun 15, 2020:
@coalburned I just think that if people are going to take issue with the removal of statues because "they erase history," we should consider whether statues provide an accurate and full account of that history. And if they don't, then we owe it to those people to correct the record, as it were, through addition if possible, and subtraction if needed. Or they could leave history to the history books and concede that they are fighting to protect what the statues represent. At least we could all be on the same page about their meaning, even if our moral judgments of that meaning were opposed.

@Hanno From observing how the different fan spaces are launched here (the ones where the actual celebrity is also a member), I suspect that admin did more than simply allow Paul Ramsey to create a group like any other user. And while "the vast majority of posters here are ... not white supremacists" may have been generally true a few weeks ago, there has been a recent bump in white supremacist posts from new users that is correlated with increased activity in Ramsey's group.

@SpikeTalon You have a right to protect yourself, but what makes you afraid? There have been protests and unrest across the country yet none that I know of has targeted residences or people on the street other than police and the occasional right-wing terrorist. Yes, there are some mixed developments that may be at a higher risk. Does that describe your living situation? Moreover, some protests are more likely to be accompanied by unrest than others. You could easily determine the risk by doing some research on its organizers.
