Government spending is at the expense of the growth of the economy. It should only be engaged for value received. So what is the value of establishing a whole culture of citizens whose families has not worked in generations, because they no longer have any role models who work, because of institutional entitlements? And when government spending starts to slow down economies, it affects businesses, which eventually fail, and they are the means of production. Socialists think controlling them makes them more productive, and exactly the opposite is true. Just ask any Venezuelan, except Maduro. So what would the value received be against COVID-19? No nation has been able to stop it, and only tyrannical governments have much control of it, which would do all of the above. See any problem there? Finally, 10% of a wealthy economy might work for a while. 10% of the World economy could collapse the World economy in under a year. The UN is a dangerous agent. Its time it was defunded.

What percentage of Covid-19 patients are likely to die?
TimTuolomne comments on Apr 3, 2020:
The final number could be 0.7% or lower of the total infected. And of those over half will be people with at least three life threatening issues before they were infected. A quarter with two, and another quarter with one pre-existing condition. With no pre-existing conditions, your likelihood of getting killed by COVID-19 is around 1 in 100,000. You are far more likely to get killed going for groceries. Ref: https://informationisbeautiful.net/visualizations/covid-19-coronavirus-infographic-datapack/ Those in the pre-existing conditions group are highly disposed to failing because of ANY passing microbe. With the microscope on COVID-19, now many of them will be COVID-19 deaths instead of "natural causes due to lung cancer, emphysema, diabetes, heart disease...."

This is a credible report on the possible origins of SARS COV2. I consider it credible, as the report itself is shown, even though I can not verify its existence. Normally I would consider verification essential before agreeing, however in the case of a totalitarian regime which has clearly arrested doctors for trying to report the virus, it seems credible this could have been sanitized by the CCP. I fear for the life of the brave young man who wrote this paper.

TimTuolomne comments on Apr 3, 2020:
There will be different ways of reporting the fatalities in different fiefdoms. Not much you can do about that. But that is largely fiddling while Rome burns. The larger picture is clear, and this author has not pinned down how much error he is talking about. It could be 1%. I doubt its 10%. So the relative numbers could be far larger than those required to make that significant. Based on this article there is no way to know, so what is its value? None.

TimTuolomne comments on Apr 3, 2020:
According to the CDC there were 2,046,549 deaths from all causes except suicide in the US in 2018, and not a whisper, so actually, a million deaths in the US does not constitute "...a social, economic and cultural disaster." But apparently 7,004 from COVID-19 does. Public panic changes everything, and I think the media has some responsibility for fanning those flames. The rest of us and our leadership are doing their best to deal with it. I'm not too sure about those throwing rocks at them while people die.

Coronavirus Hungary: Extraordinary Coronavirus Measures are Used Everywhere, But Only We Are ...
TimTuolomne comments on Apr 3, 2020:
Using the standards of non-Constitutional nations to judge what is reasonable in this country is utter nonsense. We are a representative republic, in which public opinion - right or wrong, governs our leaders actions. Our public has - in effect, demanded self quarantine. That may or may not be seen as prudent in the days to come, however, our leaders reacted appropriately. Politics is still politics for many people, and no matter what leadership does, they will still consider winning more important, regardless of the safety of the nation. That's human nature talking, and we have a system that is the best there is in tolerating such nonsense. It will never go away. But our system might go away, particularly if we let some convince us that a virus like the ones that kill tens of thousands every year is reason to overthrow the Constitution. They have already been successful with their drip, drip, drip of clipping the Constitution to the point that we are now ruled by an impossible morass of Federal bureaucracy. Very few are alive today who remember what it was like before that became true. But maybe its time to respond by saying its time to restore Constitutional protection of our rights by overturning the decisions that crippled it.

TimTuolomne comments on Apr 3, 2020:
I know a geneticist who disagrees with this analysis because gene splicing requires an intermediate virus that is lab friendly, easy to handle, and does not degrade too easily. That's a small list, and it leaves traces. Those traces are absent in the genes of SARS-COV2, the virus that causes COVID-19. That means it could not have been made in a lab. In addition, the sequence of SARS-COV2 show a clear forensic path that includes mutation in bats and pangolin that makes sense, including the jump to humans. That said, China DID try to hide the progress of the virus, obviously hoping their totalitarian measures could control it. When they lost control, they resorted to trying to blame the US. They are the perfect example of what happens when ridiculously fallible humans are in charge of utopia. And that's all we've got folks, so systems like that, which depend on some human to be a benevolent god, will never work. Constitutional freedom is the only solution, and not the crippled Constitution we have today. The Constitution we abandoned in 1942, would have made the public free enough to be intolerant of an irresponsible media like we have today.

There are a fairly large set of people - particularly in the US, who believe what they want to believe, and will fit a few actual facts to support their fantasies, and ignore the forest for the few trees - whether or not those with real knowledge agree with them or not. David is among those who feel they are somehow smarter than anyone else - even though their credentials are weak to none. For those who are sure that self isolation is the solution, and have an open mind, they should look at the 1 fact and one interesting question: 1. infection and death rates are in the same range regardless of social distancing, unless there is a totalitarian regime that social distances in time. 2. The Chinese seem to have controlled the infection, which could have happened if they knew it was coming, which we didn't. So the virus had free reign for roughly 10 weeks elsewhere - except maybe South Korea, without social distancing. What intelligent person thinks social distancing could have much effect after that? “It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. Numbers like that are roughly in the range of tuberculosis deaths, something that has been going on for a very long time, and we are not losing our minds over that. And 65 million is far larger than the latest estimates from Dr Ferguson, of the Imperial College London, who was initially talking numbers like that, and now is predicting numbers that extrapolate to something more like 4 million worldwide, and not in 18 months. Far sooner. Then the peak will have passed far down into the background of every other infection. Calling this a pandemic, when the common cold and flu does roughly the same thing every year is of questionable value. The Spanish Flu was rightly called a pandemic, and resulted in maybe 50 million deaths in 18 months, at a time when we did not have the understanding we do now of these viruses.

Given that very little of the 9 trillion seems to have built the economy, what usually happens to cash that is untraceable? Every person in the US, now owes more than $70,000, including every baby, for no value received. That would banckrupt most of us. And the US will eventually have to pay it back, or lose our credibility in the World. Shouldn't we be thinking about how we will do that, and stop government spending? Ya know, you can prove just about anything you want - in your own mind at least, if you simplify and overgeneralize enough. There is a reason the expression exists: "The devil is in the details." Not that the details are evil. That expression is a reference to the fact that humans tend to ignore the finer points, and that inevitably ruins the effort, just like the devil lying, breaking and killing, as he will do. The devil is justified in doing that by human behavior which invites the devil to do the damage. And great damage has been done to human souls. 100 million to 260 million of us lost on Earth, and countless suffering and imprisoned - depending on your sources of information, for the sake of implementing utopian philosophies that some people thought were so compelling that they believed it was justified to use force to implement them "for our own good." And there is no difference between that violence and verbal condemnation. Verbal condemnation is the equivalent of shutting down a person's rational objection, when murder or war is not an option. But first comes the overture.

Sweden is proving that the "lockdown" is a bad idea. Their infections and deaths are not even close to flu and cold deaths, and are far below most other European countries, with 18 deaths per million people. Even though they may turn out to be "average," the two months of uncontrolled spread of the virus has made almost all nations equal, regardless of the tactics they used. And now that we know the virus is not much different than a bad flu, a lockdown is clearly an overreaction. When the dust has settled about COVID-19, I bet the author of this piece does not print a retraction.

Even though Morgan is correct to challenge hypocrisy of the "Climate Change" narrative, I am not comfortable with his method, which is similar to the Progressive tactic of vicious condemnation and shutting down discourse. We don't persuade that way. If we adopt that tactic, we reduce ourselves to that level, become part of their narrative, and justify their cricitism.

None of this would be happening if we kept this in context. The latest study shows COVID-19 roughly the equivalent death rate as a bad flu year, for which we did not shut down the country. The media sells more advertising when it produces a story without context, that then has more emotional punch. Panic has driven this, and our leaders had no choice but to respond. Tell them. It is risky politically to shut everything down. They'll do their best to let the status quo resume if you let them.
Here is evidence that the COVID-19 response is a hoax pushed by the government/”progressive” ...
TimTuolomne comments on Mar 31, 2020:
Panic has driven an overreaction in most places. The article below shows that COVID-19 may result in deaths roughly equivalent to a bad flu year. The fact that we've never before shut down a country because of the flu, is re-invigorating conspiracy theorists. And some countries have opportunists ready and willing to take advantage of the chaos. The fact is, voters in those countries have already allowed the kind of people willing to do that to gain office. This debate remains without the benefit of the greater context of the flu and cold deaths, about which such draconian measures would never have even been considered. Latest projections place the mortality roughly equal to a bad flu year. https://www.dailysignal.com/2020/03/30/how-many-americans-could-die-from-covid-19-what-the-latest-data-projections-show/?utm_source=rss

I choose to be the "man in the mirror." I believe I can only make the World better by being the most moral and responsible example I can be, with open humility for my inevitable failures. To do that, I must promote and defend liberty.

Trump Derangement Syndrome is rampant in my family, and I can assure you that no amount of rational or positive action by the President will ever put a dent in their religious belief that he is somehow an evil or foolish man. Even 3 years looking for smoke to prove fire has not seemed unreasonable to them. Most rational people would realize that no conspiracy in history was able to last more than a few months. The best kept secret in history might have been the Manhattan project, which started to be suspected by the enemy after about 6 months, but the bomb was dropped before it could be proved.

Credible charges that China is an actual fascist state. Some make such a charge about America with no apparent understanding of the definition. Definition of fascism: 1. A political philosophy, movement, or regime that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition (Merriam-Webster)

TimTuolomne comments on Mar 31, 2020:
Hey, the president is just responding to most of the nation having just wet themselves. Most of what he says is that he is trying to inspire calm. If the people start to get over their panic, he can take the risk of letting the status quo resume. Sometimes the greater risk is actually the economy. If you bother to put COVID-19 into the perspective of the flu and common cold cases and deaths, you might come to that conclusion. Panic is not helpful.

TimTuolomne comments on Mar 31, 2020:
I don't say that's impossible, but I wonder how many people totally lost their rights (such as they may have been before) and families, or were imprisoned and sacrificed or killed to get it done. I know a few Chinese nationals personally, and it seems common that given their resignation to the system that controls them, they all seem to have a similar coping mechanism of rationalization that involves defending their system, as protectors of some kind. Probing even a little makes them instantly distant and suspicious.
