Hello. Thanks for your kind words. I'll check the King James Bible out! '... am puzzled how two religions can follow the laws of Moses and fight each other.' Exactly! I found the following (written by someone called BS Foad, M.D.): Islamic values are the same as Christian values 1-Belief in God and in being accountable to God: That there is a Day of Judgment, Heaven & Hell 2-Be good to your families and neighbors 3-Establish prayer and give in charity and help the poor and needy 4-Apply your faith in the way you live your life with noble character and morals, get close to God and never despair of his mercy 5-Faith in God’s prophets & messengers and following their example And faith in God’s divine books as our constitution 6-Learn and improve and invite to God by our example How Islam has become so divisive has got to do with politics, hasn't it? And many people have become to hate Muslims as collective by default. It's not only in the West; I have a friend in India and she tells me that once upon a time people of all religions lived happily together.

Gosh, you're well-read, Aurelien, and thanks for your input. 'how those texts were exploited for very specific agendas,' I'm inclined to agree with that. Islam has certainly been shaped from both inside and outside to be divisive, and the mindset has been established for non-Muslims to hate the religion, generating the notion that all Muslims are bad. I know some people are trying to reform Islam and they agree that removing Hadiths the words of Muhammad would make a good start, if possible at all.

The Quran sums up the view of the Prophet Abraham among Muslims: "Who can be better in religion than one who submits his whole self to Allah, does good, and follows the way of Abraham the true in Faith? For Allah did take Abraham for a friend" (Quran 4:125). It sounds like Abraham was a much greater prophet than Muhammad, yet, I'm under the impression that Hadiths the words of Muhammad are cited a lot more often by his worshippers and haters alike. I was wondering why that is, if that makes any sense. Was that Muhammad himself who decided to use Islam as a political weapon (after he reached Medina)? I'm kind of looking way, way back into the history of Islam to try to find how the religion became so problematic and divisive from inside and outside perspectives.

Hello. Thank you for your input. Much appreciate it. Memes often come with satirical and/or exaggerated expressions, so I don't normally take them literally. It says "Don't know if this is a serious problem in your countries... ", so if it isn't a problem where you live in the US, that's good. Meanwhile, three other members on this page who also live in the US acknowledge the problem. Your country is huge, so the severity of the problem is probably very different from area to area. Incidentally, I live in the UK and many species of bee are on the brink of extinction in parts of the UK – and some types have been lost entirely, so it is a serious problem in the UK. I read somewhere that climate change, habitat loss, pollution and disease are among the causes of bee extinction. In terms of ecosystems, I always understand that each species fits like a jigsaw puzzle piece in the ecosystem it belongs. I don't think it is the case that even if all bees are gone, we can still replace them with butterflies and others simply because they are all pollinators. In terms of economy, apparently the bee’s pollinating services are worth £690m a year to the UK economy. So, if all bees died out, it'll have an impact on the UK economy. If bee farms are doing well in the US, that is good news.
Don't know if this is a serious problem in your countries.

Hello. That's an interesting point. Debates on gun control are usually fierce (lol). I think that there is a lot of history and culture involved as to how people think about owning guns. You're in America and I believe that the ethos of gun ownership centres on the Constitutions. In the UK, people don't think of owning guns for their safety, generally speaking. Different countries, different ways of thinking. I find it interesting.

Hello. I'm inclined to go along with the Luddite fallacy. As you mentioned, I go along with the theory that jobs lost as a result of technological change will be created in different, new industries. However, I think that it could be difficult for one to invest time and money in retraining oneself while out of job. Plus, new jobs are not always created quickly at the local level. For example, one major business (big supermarket, factory, etc.) is shut down in a rural area, it has a serious impact on the local economy. Do you think it is a good idea that the government steps in and gives an incentive to a giant company like Amazon to create jobs?

Hello. Point taken. There is always room for improvement. Another thing is that when novel ideas are materialised as products, they're often expensive and it takes a while before prices come down so that everyone can appreciate them. I see a double standard when any supposedly "environmentally-friendly product comes with a high price. Still, it's the positive, constructive attitude which I like. I don't like being made to feel guilty of using plastic, eating meat, travelling by car, plane, etc., especially when I'm already doing my share.
