Is this equally controversial? Trans Man Won His Debut as Professional Boxer – Rolling Stone
Bloodsyckleraven comments on Nov 2, 2019:
Nothing controversial here. Top tier women defeating bottom tier men isn’t uncommon. Her opponent has zero wins! Let’s see how well she advances.
Naomi replies on Nov 2, 2019:
@pbuck0145 Don't know why you're answering my question on behalf of Bloodsyckleraven. Anyway, he says "top tier women defeating bottom tier men". I interpreted that there could be a careful consideration of biological differences between male and female in order to equalise their skills and abilities. (I don't actually see anything wrong with that, though I haven't thought it through). I simply asked the question if that's what he meant.

Hello. So, how would you reshape the American education system? Dewey advocated for pragmatism and progressive education: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pragmatism https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progressive_education On the face of it, they both sound sensible and reasonable, no?
Naomi replies on Nov 2, 2019:
I guess good teaching is about good interaction with children and motivating them to learn further through the subjects they are taught. I also think that nurturing critical thinking and creativity is also very important. I wonder if what Dewey promoted was perceived differently by educationists in those days to the present time; the social climate was different. The definition of "progressive" may have been different, too.

Hello. So you're saying that it is fine for a man and woman compete against one another in a sport as long as male/female differences are considered and the right balance is maintained, right?

Hello. Now you confuse me. Lol The article says: Manuel, 33, was raised female, but he has long identified as a male. After winning women’s amateur boxing titles, Manuel qualified for the 2012 Olympic trials. An injury prevented that opportunity from being fully realized, though, and that was one of the key triggers in Manuel undergoing gender confirmation procedures. So, is Manuel now a trans man or a trans woman???

Naomi replies on Nov 1, 2019:
There is also a reason for the proverb 'birds of a feather flock together'. In the past, I encountered enough people like the elderly man I mention in the original post, and when they present rather blunt shallow views on certain groups of people (or anything for that matter), I can't help wondering how they reached their views, which are often as idiotic as 'Ah, he is from Turkey, that tells a lot about him.' I guess it's due to prejudice based on what they see portrayed by the media and not based on their own experiences. Ah well, aren't we all prejudiced after all...?

There is trouble in the forest And the creatures all have fled As the maples scream 'oppression!' And the oaks, just shake their heads So the maples formed a union And demanded equal rights 'The oaks are just too greedy We will make them give us light' Now there's no more oak oppression For they passed a noble law And the trees are all kept equal By hatchet, Axe, And saw..." Every thing that is included in the 'story' (as you call it) is a fact. the Japanese friends, the old man, EVERYONE and EVERY THING in the post exist, and this incident did happen for real. Somewhat, you got fixated to the idea that I made this one up in order to stir the political pot, or you were just reading too much into it. Why did you assume that the old man is white? In my neighbourhood, there are old Asian men as well as old white men. Why do you say that old men are problematic and repulsive? Is that how you perceive elderly people? That would include my elderly uncles. I won't have it. I wasn't upset by what the old man was saying. I was a little startled by his remarks. Not many people would start a conversation like he did with complete strangers. My friends and I were a little embarrassed, not knowing how to respond to his remarks. I began to wonder then, as I do, how people become to like others, by first impression, behaviour, colour of skin, religion, etc., etc.?. I also wondered if people would change their attitude from friendly to not so friendly, and vice versa, once they found each other's background more. I'm an ethnic minority in the UK and I've been living in the same street for many many years. My neighbours no longer see me as a foreigner (they did to start with, naturally), they see me as 'me' (they actually tell me so). Funnily enough, I think I'm right in saying that the British people are quite class-conscious among themselves, and for some, it appears to be a difficult factor to overcome when making friends. It is a cultural thing and is deeply rooted in British society. "Birds of a feather" comes in my mind...

Intuitive action (emotions, impressions... the things you talk about) followed by reasoning to justify that action. Have you read 'The Righteous Mind: Why Good People Are Divided by Politics and Religion' by Jonathan Haidt? His elephant & rider metaphor is very interesting and there is a lot of truth in it in my opinion. 'The emotional side is the elephant, the rational side is the rider. The rider of the elephant looks like he or she is in charge, but when there’s a disagreement between the elephant and the rider, the elephant usually wins.'

If the elderly man was black, Indian, or even a woman, it would have unfolded exactly the same way. If you arrived at the above rather unfounded perception about me, with all due respect, sir, I would argue that you are the one who's been caught up in the "hate white men" narrative. Oh, absolutely. There's a certain degree of hypocrisy coming from both sides, I would say. The bottom line to me is that anyone and everyone involved in children's education must have a duty of care, and they should suffer consequences for failing to fulfil that duty. Just imagine your grandchild was there. Incidentally, from a woman's point of view (and I'm sure your wife will agree), a real woman knows how to sit when wearing a dress or a skirt, i.e. putting her knees together or carefully cross her legs, and it comes naturally, whereas a woman, who used to be a man, has to make an extra conscious effort to do this. It is thinkable that the trans woman in the article momentarily lost concentration on the positions of her legs (because it used to be alright to sit with legs wide open when she was a man), exposing whatever she's got between her legs. 😂

Thanks iThink, for your decent argument - I appreciate it. I still think it is too broad a claim that Western civilisation is in decline because there are many leftover women, especially Black Pigeon's generalisation of single women being "left over" (I find implying "on the shelf" is derogatory) and assumption that they're lonely and miserable based on his anecdotal evidence is a little too subjective a view for me to go along with; my anecdotal evidence says otherwise. Plus, if he is trying to connect the decline of Western civilisation with decreasing birth rates in the West, there are various reasons; inflexible work options, high childcare costs, for example, in fact, concerning married mothers and not necessarily the increasing number of leftover women. In any event, we agree to disagree on this one. I rest my case. :)

With all due respect, you're missing the point of the original post, sir. The point is not only the distortion of facts (in this case, what was originally a divorce case of the boy's parents and the custody of the boy, the gender transition issue surrounding the boy was cleverly incorporated, thereby pulling the focus out of the original story), but also a violation of the ethics of journalism. For example, in the UK, the identity of a child subjected to child abuse must never be revealed for legal reasons. Is it the same in Canada?
