@RoscoNovaro Your comment reminds me of Marx's famous dictum that religion is โ€œthe opium of the peopleโ€. The New Testament was a big success.

The problem is, in my opinion, that Westerners often try to apply their Western views, values, etc. to non-Westerners living in non-Western societies and make judgements, AND, vise versa of course. (I know a Japanese lady living in England who doesn't think much of the British and thinks that the Japanese are much better (on what ground does she think so - I haven't got a clue!)) In such a case, one is bound to feel that their cultural territory is intruded upon, and feel slightly offended. Ah well, like you say, it's sheer ignorance, I think.

@WilyRickWiles I'm glad that I came across "communal anarchism" before I became fixed to the typical view of anarchism; hyper-individual, violence, chaos, etc. It's important for me to stay open-minded. I agree with @AndrewInVail that even communal anarchism will eventually turn into feudalism because of human nature as he describes in his comment. BTW, I didn't realise that anarchism had actually been implemented, re: the first video Crikey posted mentions it.

Naomi replies on Jun 24, 2020:
@JoeySparks, @Crikey I can't remember his name, but one poet wrote about salmon. Some critics wondered if the poem carried any important message, any deeper meaning behind it than just about salmon; maybe the poet used salmon as a metaphor for something profound, etc., etc. When the poet was asked, he said that the poem was simply about the salmon he had in his head at the time of writing it; no message, no profound meaning, nothing. I think that when a written material is so complex and/or abstract that it is open to many different interpretations, especially when it is impossible to verify with its original writer (like the critics could with the poet), that material also becomes open to many different "subjective" views, i.e., beliefs. And when a belief is based on a subjective view, it becomes hard to verify its legitimacy.
I didn't know that until now! ๐Ÿ˜‚

"Life is suffering." Do you think that there is a virtuous ring to this expression? It seems that hardship is seen as a good thing and privilege (no hardship) is seen as a bad thing - from a sufferer's perspective. The less privileged/sufferers are morally superior like... If so, this concept is probably used by ideologues for their political gain. They generate a delusion that privilege is something that can be stripped off people.

@Crikey "...perhaps the text has not portrayed the intention and motivation as clearly as one might think." I agree. There are many different interpretations of the Bible, based on which there are different denominations. Jehovah's witnesses don't believe in trinity, for example, and that is a significantly different interpretation of the Bible from the other denominations. And when they cannot agree among themselves, hence different denominations, there have got to be political struggles over who owns the Bible; who has the authority/control over the Bible.

Naomi replies on Jun 20, 2020:
In my simple mind, when something is written by someone, it becomes a tool that conveys the writer's intention, motivation, etc. I learned that: Archaeology has yielded vast numbers of documents from the ancient near-east, such as Assyrian and Babylonian annals, which illuminate the Old Testament world; and The scribes are never described in detail in the Old Testament itself, but analogies with Egypt and Mesopotamia make it clear that there must have been a scribal class, probably attached as civil servants to the temple in Jerusalem or the royal court. After the exile of the Jewish people in Bablylon in the sixth century BC, scribes gradually turned into religious teachers, as we find them in the New Testament. https://www.historyextra.com/period/ancient-history/history-bible-origins-who-wrote-when-how-reliable-historical-record/ So I find it hard to address the Bible as if it has its own intentions, motivations and context, when it is evident that it was written by humans, who were possibly politically-motivated beings as well as being religious.

@Crikey, @Corjova If "the rejection of the idea of divine authority" must be related to the atheist being responsible for "the hell holes created in places ruled by atheists", shouldn't it be discussed in the political context? For example, the USSR anti-religious campaign and Stalin's purge were implemented with the intention of systematic dissemination of atheism. It was a political power struggle and not at the level of personal religious involvement.
