Hello Rob, I wouldn't be surprised if there had been cases in the UK where employers and their employees fell out over Brexit, etc., and the employees were subsequently dismissed, but such cases are not likely revealed to public unless employees file court cases against their employers and media pick them up. I find it bizarre that people are allowed to be so shamelessly openly discriminatory against certain individuals, let alone producing an open letter to encourage discrimination.

Naomi replies on Jan 28, 2021:
@TheMiddleWay "The executive power shall be vested in a president of the United States of America." This is written in the Constitution, isn't it? What is peculiar is that while the term "executive power" is used, the term "executive order" is not written anywhere in the Constitution; the definition of "executive power" is yet to be defined explicitly. i.e., how the exercise of "executive orders" came about. That's what I read anyway. Also, I read somewhere that an executive order can be overturned if its legality is questionable, i.e., it is not within the confines of the law. But this rarely happens, I guess. In this day and age, the concept of one-person authority is still officially implemented; a bit like centuries ago, kings or emperors ruled their kingdoms or empires single-handedly with absolute power. Amazing!

Freedom of speech is a right.
Naomi comments on Jan 27, 2021:
Hello. I believe that speech is like any other action; it comes with responsibilities, yet many people seem to think that free speech means that they can say anything they like, including spreading baseless speculations, twisting facts, insulting others using vile language, etc., which happens a lot...
Naomi replies on Jan 27, 2021:
While free speech is a right, silence is also an established right, isn't it? I asked others some time ago how Biden's administration would affect their daily lives. Someone said that he was concerned about having tax imposed on his small savings (for whatever reason), which is a realistic concern. Another person said that he had no concerns because he is retired and is on a rather good pension. The latter is active talking about politics all the time like an armchair general, knowing that nothing bad is gonna happen to his lifestyle. Hence my opinion that politics is something for well-off people to enjoy talking about. Another thing I would mention is that some years ago in the UK, there was a call for boycotting retailers that overlook child labour, typically in India. I have a few Indian friends and they told me that child labour is bad by the Western standards, but it is often necessary in India. If a family is so poor that they can't send their children to school, it only makes sense that they help their parents earn money by doing simple tasks to start with, fetching water, carrying bricks, collecting wood, etc, and once they are old enough, they may go to a town factory to earn more money for their family. Of course, such an situation is not acceptable, but they just cannot afford to talk about political ideology or ethical ideals like we can in civilised countries.

Naomi replies on Jan 26, 2021:
@dd54 I'm afraid you ask questions no one can answer with accuracy because we simply don't know the exact background. I watched Jackson, the Texas man's son, interviewed closely here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNgc8LSJEQw He says “It wasn’t just because I think my dad is aggressive, I think what he’s been manipulated into thinking is aggressive.” He is a smart kid, cool-headed enough to observe and evaluate that his own father was being driven into trouble. Jackson also prompted GoFundMe because he fears that he will be kicked out of house with no money but he doesn't want to stop studying at college/university. And it was the people, so many of them, who support him, who "asked for GoFundMe" and he took the advice. Check it out here. I wouldn't paint a bad picture of Jackson implying that he has some bad motive. It often happens that you go online and ask public for financial support, just a humble amount, through GoFundMe, etc., and then you get overwhelmed, realising how many people actually want to support you. There really is nothing to see... https://twitter.com/jackson_reffitt/status/1352825044523769858?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1352825044523769858%7Ctwgr%5E=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.dailywire.com%2Fnews%2Fson-sets-up-gofundme-after-reporting-dad-to-fbi-before-arrest-at-capitol https://www.gofundme.com/f/jackson-reffitt-college-fund?utm_source=customer=more=p_cf+share-flow-1 That's about all the information I can get about Jackson on the Internet so far. So I wouldn't go judging that Jackson is in a wrong, while rationalising his father's unlawful behaviour, let alone assuming that Jackson has been indoctrinated purely because he is a student (a typical narrative to portray ALL college and university students) and that he has some ill motive in asking for financial support. To me, Jackson is a smart, cool-headed kid who takes his study and future seriously; he doesn't come across as an indoctrinated student at all. That's my take anyway. I don't know what Tim Pool is playing at to be honest. I used to follow him but not much nowadays.

While the Western media seem to portray Navalny, an anti-corruption activist and lawyer, as a freedom fighter as such, someone in Russia told me that the movement Navalny is leading is the Russian equivalent of BLM.

@saramarylop3z Yeah, I think I'm pretty open-minded, but if there is something I don't understand (borrowing your example, some people believe that violence is a necessary evil for justice), maybe that's because deep down, my mindset is rejecting to understand the mentality of those who rationalise violence, and I'm not necessarily aware of that mindset of mine, or that mindset is so firmly established in my head that it is impossible to reset it... I will carry on pondering. :)

Naomi replies on Jan 22, 2021:
Hello. I've learnt that being 'open-mined' is easier said than done. It definitely requires a discipline to seek both sides of an argument. Without a conscious effort to explore different ideas and opinions, everybody is most comfortable in their own bubble. I've come across many who told me that they never watch or read anything sourced by left media or vice versa. That is a typical frame of mind/mindset, isn't it? Be interested and critical but don't just dismiss it, I would say, but they can't seem to help it because of their deeply ingrained attitudes towards their opposition. Basically, they've just made up their minds. No room for options, etc. Like everybody else is saying here, although it is very difficult, one may be able to reset their mindset if there is an occasion where they are made aware of their mindset and they are capable of examining it objectively.

@cepstralspike Thanks for your insight. I was telling someone about Brexit the other day. Brexit divided the nation but it didn't quite destroy unity. It didn't trigger civil war, it didn't trigger European war; it was the most peaceful independence movement in the world history. Lol Like it or not, Brexit has begun, so all we can do is to hope for the best. Fortunately, the right and the left still manage to reserve some room for collaborative thinking rather than fighting against each other all the time. British society doesn't seem to be as polarised as American society - yet. Some Brits here may disagree. I get the impression that most conservatives in America have all given up; "Democracy is dead, so is America..." This kind of comments are all over the Internet now. Have the people on the right given up on the Republican Party or has the Party abandoned their supporters, hence so much anger, hate, negativity, fear, etc.?

@KeithThroop Yeah, it is true that we can't form opinions based on nothing. Frame of mind is a good synonym of mindset, I think. Your frame of mind is your collection of thoughts and beliefs based on your experience and it shapes your thinking process. And your thinking process, or thinking habits, affects how you reach conclusions in your head, and how you act accordingly. Your frame of mind impacts how you make sense of the world, and how you make sense of yourself. When it comes to resetting your mindset, because mindset is a set of assumptions and beliefs that has been established so firmly and so ingrained, it is very difficult to reset it, like you say. For example, once I came across a man who had ingrained attitudes towards women; he couldn't seem to help it.

Hello. "ANY part of your personality can be changed" I'm not sure if personality is a synonym of mindset. To me, mindset is a firm belief, rather than a personality which is inborn, that affects one's thinking process and behaviour, like an ingrained attitude towards something or someone. A belief is not necessarily logical and rational; it is often subjective, in which case it is difficult to be objective. I'm thinking aloud... Lol

Hello. "It begins with a recognition of one's own presuppositions..." It sounds like that one needs to be made aware of their mindset by others first in order to assess it. That is a little different from self-assessing their mindset.
