@1patriot I think it's very important that what happened during the wars is told to younger generations. Especially personal stories, like one German pilot was shot down and an English woman who found the dead pilot cried, saying that he was someone's son. Young generations need to be told lots of stories like that so that they realise that no one wins in war. I don't know if you are familiar with the bitter historical relationship between the Japanese and the Korean, but when the WFC was held in Japan some years ago, it was remarked by the media that young Korean and Japanese spectators cheered each other's team - nice. :) My Japanese friends told me this. Whether it is fascism, communism, Islamism or any religious or political fundamentalism, extreme ideologies always seem to create a lot of anger and hate.

Naomi replies on Feb 2, 2021:
@Hanno So, it's not you who have this mindset? If your comment describes the mindset of many, I think they're definitely using social media as a scapegoat. And if they have this mindset unconsciously, that's very worrying. I think it is a silly perspective that there is nothing they can do to stop social media from hurting them or algorithms driving them into something stupid and horrible. The argument that it is the "system" that is driving us all crazy is often made. I would say this "system", regardless of what it is for, is still developed and implemented by humans; system doesn't develop and run by itself (not yet). I'm a little tired of this victim-like attitude "social media got the hold of my life and there is nothing I can do about it" in both political and non-political contexts. I think they generated the same frame of mind about TV, films and computer games before. They were blamed for advertising cigarettes and alcohol. They were blamed for showing skinny female models and fit male models with six pack. They were blamed for making violent films and computer games. I agree with @SpikeTalon that while they can be regulated as appropriate, we cannot blame technologies or the developers/operators thereof. Social media are platforms. They are basically not responsible for the contents that are displayed on them. It's their users that are ultimately responsible for whatever they choose to put on the social media, and I think they should also be in control of managing what they wish to see or not to see. We have the freedom to turn TV off or turn it over. Why do many people think that they can't log out, turn their devices off or delete what they don't want to see? Instead, they blame social media for driving them into something undesirable and something that can bring misery into their lives. I just don't get it. And what could we do to lose such a victim mindset, I wonder...?

Yes, social media has become a scapegoat of the sorts. I don't blame technology for the ills in society, human beings are to blame.
Naomi replies on Feb 2, 2021:
Hello. I agree. At the end of the day, we, humans, are responsible for everything we do. To me it is pathetic to blame "system" because "system" is developed and implemented by humans. It is pathetic to blame ads on TV/online for becoming addicted to gambling because it is ultimately your choice to commit yourself to gambling. It is pathetic to blame algorithms that learn and further form your preferences because if you know that 's what algorithms do, we can stop ourselves from falling for algorithm-driven stupidity. Having said all that, I think there needs to be a way to protect young vulnerable minds from all the poisons seeping into social media.
