Brits received warnings from Facebook after passionately talking about "Faggots and Peas" (yummy!).
Alysandir comments on Feb 18, 2021:
I remember an oldish British cooking show called, "Two Fat Ladies," where they once made a dish called, "Bubble and Squeak," because apparently that's what your colon does after eating it.
Naomi replies on Feb 18, 2021:
*Bubble and squeak, a common British dish consisting of vegetables, especially potatoes and cabbage. The ingredients are panfried and served as a side dish. Bubble and squeak, which dates from the 18th century, originally also included meat, and it was typically made with leftovers from the Sunday roast and eaten the next day. The contemporary dish, however, is usually meatless, and though a wide assortment of vegetables may be used, the key ingredient is potatoes, which hold the other various components together. The dish’s name supposedly derives from the noises made when the ingredients are fried. Similar dishes, also based on fried vegetables, include colcannon (Ireland) and rumbledethumps (Scotland). - Britannica*

Hello 2FollowHim, Black & white debates, like communism vs capitalism and the left vs the right, never seem to develop very well because they don't allow any grey areas in between to be taken into consideration. I'm glad that you've got the definition of socialism right. I've always felt that it is a little lazy to talk about socialism and communism as if they were exactly the same. When you said "community sharing", I knew you were talking about a moderate form socialism and not communism, although I'm aware that communism is a much higher, more advanced form of socialism.

Naomi replies on Feb 16, 2021:
@rway @Hanno I don't argue about the advancement of modern science in the West. Meanwhile, I'm thinking of ancient Chinese. They had many great philosophers instead of religious leaders, and the ancient Chinese idea of how the world was created was a cosmogonic or origin myth which was already more accurate than any divine creation myth, even by today's science standard. Their focus was on cosmogomy; study of the evolutionary behaviour of the universe and the origin of its characteristic features. They were already thinking that way something like the 4th century BC! I wonder if they were atheists, then. They must've been because apparently there are very few stories involving a god as a creator or divine will from those ancient times. Amazing! So, there may be a flaw to the idea that a single-god set up provided a basis for the advancement of modern science. Well, not in the East, obviously.

@RobBlair No, I don't have a low opinion of you! Lol But sometimes, I'm under the impression that you are so conservative that you may be skeptical of new ideas. Obviously I'm wrong! I'm all for having a variety of energy sources, and if we have more technologies to synthesise energy/fuels instead of exhausting natural resources, that can only be a good thing. Like someone said here, technologies are constantly advancing; we have batteries that can discharge energy more efficiently for longer time, we have more environmentally-conscious electric appliances, all mobile (cell) phones come with energy-saving functions nowadays, agricultural produce logistics is more localised rather than depending on imports, insulation walls for houses and buildings to cut down on heating costs, etc., etc. New ideas and inventions are waiting to be industrially applicable and I'm positive that new energy solutions can be made available to everybody at affordable prices - one day!

@Hanno @rway "The idea that the Universe was Created on purpose". Again, this is a very Christian/monotheistic concept to me. I'm inclined to go along with Spinoza who believed that God is β€œthe sum of the natural and physical laws of the universe and certainly not an individual entity or creator”, and I think that this concept is somehow in line with the idea of polytheistic religions where multiple deities are associated with natural elements such as sun, water, fire, wind, etc., and therefore it goes along with law of nature; the philosophy of science, rather than the idea of God as the sole creator.

Hello rway, "Even if God didn't exist, He would still exist as an idea." this statement itself sounds like an Western concept to me; I grew up outside the West. So what follows in your comment is kind of wasted on me - sorry. I was brought up by agnostic parents in a secular environment. There were no religious scriptures in our house. I didn't even know the Ten Commandments until my English language teacher used it as a teaching/learning material in the classroom. So, my moral compass was developed somehow irrelevant to religious teaching. I kind of understand the concept of God existing as an idea, though. Though agnostic, my parents didn't prevent me from reading stories about various gods, but they were just stories to me and the gods that appeared in the stories were simply characters. It was kind of fantasy to think that they existed but they were no different from say, Spiderman or Batman. Those stories didn't prompt me to think seriously about the existence of gods. I still feel the same way. I don't mean to trivialise gods or be disrespectful to those who have faith in their gods, but I can only learn religions in terms of religious studies and anthropology, like you say as an idea held by humans.

Ha, ha, I got you thinking! Cancelling the cancel culture means stop ostracising people for speaking freely and expressing themselves. In the clergyman's case, what he said was insensitive and terrible but it wasn't a hate speech, nor did it incite violence according to the British hate speech law. Nonetheless, the petition was set up to remove him from his post - that's ostracism in my understanding. Incidentally, I watched quite a bit of the impeachment trial every day for five days. I wasn't interested in the verdict; it was predicted that Trump was going to be acquitted. I was interested to see how the trial would unfold. Oh man, the impeachment managers spent hours emphasising how Trump incited the violence by quoting "Fight like hell!" etc., while Trump's defence lawyer spent hours emphasising that Biden was just as bad by quoting "Take Trump to behind the gym." etc. They were trapped in this argument back and forth most of the time. It was inane; the same as two kids saying "You started it." "No, YOU started it." It's so unhelpful in bringing two side together. (Sorry if I sound disrespectful towards your politicians - I don't mean to.) Unless we get out of and go above this level of argument, we are not gonna find the middle ground so that we can finally cancel the cancel culture and mutually protect freedom of speech. I still don't know how exactly, though. Legislation wouldn't be the best solution.

Naomi replies on Feb 14, 2021:
@WilyRickWiles I can tell from your description of yourself that your mindset, or the millennial mindset, is different from that of boomers - naturally, because of the social and economic changes, etc. I happened to be in Japan before and after the economic bubble burst and its terrible consequences were so obvious even in tourists' eyes. For example, before the bubble burst, I believe that some 90% of the population saw themselves as middle-class because they were doing so well financially. And after the bubble burst, I saw homeless people including those who used to be company managers. It was unthinkable. I saw some sleeping rough in the park in front of the main tax office in Tokyo. I don't know if that was their way of protesting against the government. So, having witnessed what their parents went through, I think that their children would grow up with different perspectives about the social and economic circumstances surrounding them, and of course, with technological advancement, the millennial lifestyle is also different from the lifestyle Boomers had.

The same ostracism that our grandparents and ancestors centuries ago did, especially in the context of tribal and religious homogeny. The only difference is the Internet and social media. It is not leftists' speciality; rightists do it, too. If you are curious enough, you will find what I mean on the Internet.

@WilyRickWiles, @Hanno, @govols Say that millennials have some disposable income, whether their own savings or inheritance, here is an interesting perspective by one marketing expert on how they will be investing their money: *As Baby Boomers age and begin to pass down money to their Generational X and Millennial descendants, it will be the largest intergenerational wealth transfer in history, with $30 trillion set to change hands over the next few decades. As Millennials grow their wealth through earnings and inheritance, I expect that sustainable investing will only continue to grow as part of the investing landscape.* *Power of Skepticism?* *This huge mobilization means that Millennials’ social and environmental preferences can create real, meaningful differences that echo throughout the economyβ€”and the world. They know it, too: 75% of Millennials believe that their investments can influence climate change; 84% believe that their investments have the power to help lift people out of poverty.* *Where does this social consciousness come from?* *Perhaps the Great Recession was to blame, but Millennials tend to be less affiliated with formal institutions, including a distrust of the media and organized religion. They tend to lack confidence in government, the justice system, and corporations, too. This skepticism may be responsible, at least in part, for their desire to hold companies accountable, rather than assuming that various institutions are acting in the public good.* *Pair that with their belief that they have the power to bring about change and it makes sense that some members of this generation may feel that positive social change rests on their shoulders.* https://www.morganstanley.com/access/why-millennial-investors-are-different I see that millennials will be applying a capitalist approach by investing their money with expectations of good outcomes for society, e.g., helping lift people out of poverty, which is a socialist approach. Interesting, no?

Both audits found that the CPI is conceptually and statistically coherent and has a balanced structure. Hello rway, What I always find interesting regarding gender transition is that gender binary matters a lot to those who seriously consider changing their gender. Otherwise, they wouldn't bother with surgical procedures, for example - it's a huge commitment as they are irreversible. While they may make a conscious decision on which gender they want to be, their decision-making process may be unconsciously restricted by the gender binary concept, where neuroscience becomes involved, I guess.
