Actually, this does not shock me too much. I've used baking soda for a variety of things. For example, it's the best heartburn cure there is, take a glass of water, add a spoon or two of the stuff, mix, drink (tastes horrid) burp, burp again, heartburn cured. Have a zit? A little baking soda in your palm, a few drops of water, make a paste, rub vigorously on said zit, it's gone tomorrow. Bathtub filthy? Shake some baking soda, apply sponge, a bit of muscle, clean tub A most versatile product. Did I expect it to cure cancer? No, but not that shocked
