Lightman comments on Oct 1, 2020:
**Serious praise should go to the famously brave CBS reporter, Lara Logan, for telling the truth in a recent interview, in saying that the media both nationally and internationally is hideously biased leftward.** “The media everywhere is mostly liberal,” Logan told podcaster Mike Ritland, citing her 30 years in professional journalism.** “In this country, 85 percent of journalists are registered Democrats …. I always joke that another 14 percent were too lazy to register, and that there’s maybe one percent that is on the Right.”** She continued: “Visually, anyone who’s ever been to Israel and been to the Wailing Wall has seen that the women have this tiny little spot in front of the wall to pray, and the rest of the wall is for the men. To me, that’s a great representation of the American media, is that in this tiny little corner where the women pray you’ve got Breitbart and Fox News and a few others, and from there on, you have CBS, ABC, NBC, Huffington Post, Politico, whatever, right? All of them. And that’s a problem for me.” The bias is nothing new, Logan said, but the standards of professionalism have dropped precipitously: “Although the media has always been historically always been left-leaning, we’ve abandoned our pretense, or at least the effort, to be objective today ... That means we’ve become political activists in a sense and, some could argue, propagandists — and there’s some merit to that.” Logan elaborated on these points at considerable length, and with considerable thoughtfulness and insight, even while acknowledging that being so forthright might be “professional suicide for me.” This is important. Journalists on the Right surely can all tell of conversations with supposedly mainstream or “establishment” media figures who admit a liberal bias in the profession, but who say it is benign. The establishmentarian will say something along the lines of, “well, journalism just attracts people who care about fairness and social justice and who are compassionate, whereas conservatives care more about making money. But because we [the liberals] are committed to the truth, that means we’re fair to everybody.” **Note the assumptions that liberals are morally superior and conservatives are greedy. Well, when that is your bias going in, how can you possibly be fair to conservatives, whom you think are your moral inferiors? The bias itself blinds those establishmentarians to the harmful effects their bias produces.** Case in point: The Feb. 17 New York Times “news” article headlined — I’m not kidding — “Republicans hope to sway voters with labels that demonize Democrats.” Seriously. Question: In the past 60 years, has the Times ever run a piece whose theme ...

Lightman comments on Oct 1, 2020:
That FBI idiot Wray said that antifa activists were a serious concern, saying that **antifa was a “real thing” **and that the FBI had undertaken “any number of properly predicated investigations into what we would describe as** violent anarchist extremists,”** including into individuals who identify with antifa. But, he also stupidly, contradictedly said, “It’s not a group or an organization. It’s a movement or an ideology.” Really? That is like saying Nazism is an idea and not an organization. One that tried taking over the world BTW. Trump, in June singled out antifa, the so-called, “anti-fascists”. It is an **umbrella **term for** far-left-leaning militant groups, **not simply an ideology that uses violence and facism itself. They have tags, and even wear uniform. They are blackshirts not brownshirts... They are responsible for much of the violence that followed George Floyd’s death. Trump tweeted that the U.S. would be designating antifa as a terrorist organization, even though such designations are historically reserved for foreign groups and antifa seems to lack the hierarchical structure of some other more formal organizations. Just because they don't have a clubhouse with a big sign, doesn't make them not an organization... these days all you need now is a mobile phone and Internet access. They are many smaller groups under one ideological umbrella, they use the one name and they are organized.

Lightman comments on Sep 28, 2020:
**2020 race: Why tax revelations won’t hurt Trump with his rusted-on supporter base** David Charter Accusations of a “tax bombshell” can be highly potent in an election campaign because they usually go directly to what voters care about: their pockets. Will explosive claims about President Trump’s career of tax avoidance have the same impact? During the 2016 campaign he did not suffer at the ballot box despite failing to follow every presidential candidate since Gerald Ford in publishing his tax returns. His numbers were “under audit”, he claimed, and the details of his tax affairs in The New York Times suggest why: he has been battling the Internal Revenue Service for years to retain a dollars 72.9 million refund, while apparently paying precious little. Two factors will decide whether this is a tipping point that finally breaks through and erodes some of the support he has had from his rock-solid base for four years. **How will they hear?** First: how will they hear about it? This is the kind of moment that Mr Trump has spent years preparing his base for; a huge negative story broken by the liberal media that he has harangued as “fake news” and the “enemy of the people”. His lengthy campaign to condition his supporters to reject anything detrimental printed in the mainstream media enabled him to deflect recent disclosures based on anonymous sources in The Atlantic magazine that he insulted fallen American soldiers as “losers” and “suckers”. Conservative US media played down the tax issue on Monday and prepared for the first presidential debate with headlines from a report by Republican senators about money allegedly sent to Joe Biden’s son, Hunter, from the wife of a former mayor of Moscow. **If they hear, will they care?** Second: do they care? There is an argument that Mr Trump’s wheeler-dealing is already baked in and that his supporters not only accept his tax chicanery, they admire it. This was, after all, a big part of the first presidential debate in 2016, when Hillary Clinton accused Mr Trump of not paying federal taxes and he retorted: “That makes me smart.” The New York Times plans to drip out more of Mr Trump’s tax details during the closing weeks of the election campaign. The Democrats will do all they can to ensure that everyone hears about the mere $US750 he is said to have paid in personal tax, and it may have some impact, especially if the economy does not make the “super V-shaped recovery” the president is touting. Mr Trump created a huge problem for himself in not publishing his taxes on his own terms: he is left trying to brand The New York Times version as “fake news” while also claiming that these fake details were “illegally obtained” and ...

Yeah, Personally I find it hard to believe people can be addicted to social media etc. I'm on facebook, hardly ever look at it and it runs lots of the stuff you mentioned. I ignore the ads and stuff that pops up, if I want to read watch or buy something I will instigate the search myself. I only use facebook to find people I used to go to school with, it has been useful for that. I'm not addicted to poker machines or the similar tactics some websites use. My opinion is only people with addictive personalities have problems being addicted to the internet and social media. I spend more time here at the moment because I'm personally interested in politics and like to hear the opinion or others and debate the issues at hand. But I could walk away from here in a blink and probably will after the election and its aftermath.

Lightman comments on Sep 28, 2020:
Biden has been accused of inappropriate contact with women at public events, such as embracing, kissing, gripping, or placing a hand on their shoulder. He has described himself as a "tactile politician" and admitted this behavior has caused trouble for him in the past. In March 2019, former Nevada assemblywoman Lucy Flores alleged that Biden had touched her without her consent at a 2014 campaign rally in Las Vegas. In an op-ed, Flores wrote that Biden had walked up behind her, put his hands on her shoulders, smelled her hair, and kissed the back of her head, adding that the way he touched her was "an intimate way reserved for close friends, family, or romantic partners—and I felt powerless to do anything about it." Two days later, Amy Lappos, a former congressional aide to Jim Himes, said Biden touched her in a non-sexual but inappropriate way by holding her head to rub noses with her at a political fundraiser in Greenwich in 2009. The next day, two more women came forward with allegations of inappropriate conduct. Caitlin Caruso said Biden placed his hand on her thigh, and D.J. Hill said he ran his hand from her shoulder down her back. In early April 2019, three women told The Washington Post Biden had touched them in ways that made them feel uncomfortable. In April 2019, former Biden staffer Tara Reade said she had felt uncomfortable on several occasions when Biden touched her on her shoulder and neck during her employment in his Senate office in 1993. Biden apologized for not understanding how people would react to his actions, but said his intentions were honorable. He went on to say he was not sorry for anything he had ever done, which led critics to accuse him of sending a mixed message. In March 2020, Reade accused him of a 1993 sexual assault. Biden and his campaign denied the allegation.

In 2013, Biden said, "they take a saw and they cut your head off", and "they literally had to take the top of my head off." These laws make sure that all people are kept safe. The United States Congress is the lawmaking body of the Federal Government. Congress has two houses: the House of Representatives and the Senate. Each state also passes its own laws, which you must follow when you are in that state. If you live in Michigan, for example, you would follow the laws of that state as well as the Federal laws.

> But there is no justification, in a civilized society, for the kind of mass civil disobedience that involves the violation of the rights of others — regardless of whether the demonstrators’ goal is good or evil. The end does not justify the means. No one’s rights can be secured by the violation of the rights of others. Mass disobedience is an assault on the concept of rights: it is a mob’s defiance of legality as such. > The forcible occupation of another man’s property or the obstruction of a public thoroughfare is so blatant a violation of rights that an attempt to justify it becomes an abrogation of morality. An individual has no right to do a “sit-in” in the home or office of a person he disagrees with — and he does not acquire such a right by joining a gang. Rights are not a matter of numbers — and there can be no such thing, in law or in morality, as actions forbidden to an individual, but permitted to a mob. The advocates of mass civil disobedience whose purpose is intimidation and destruction. Should not be tolerated by a society. Give them an inch and they will take a mile, the more they are tolerated, the more they will push their agenda and the more violent they will become. Governments should nip this behaviour in the bud before it becomes an all out avalanche where civil society itself is put in jeopardy.

I sat in the theatre watching Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ"... while not 10 feet away from me a group of young Muslim men laughed and mocked the film from start to finish. Jews don't believe Christ was the Messiah. They are still waiting.

This from Andrew in Australia. > “No country has the right to dominate global affairs, control the destiny of others, or keep advantages in development all to itself. Even less should one be allowed to do whatever it likes and be the hegemon, bully or boss of the world. Unilateralism is a dead end,” he said. Meanwhile they dam the Mekong river causing droughts in SE Asian nations, threaten and bully fishing and other vessels in The Philippines, Vietnam, Japan and Indonesia. They threaten to invade Taiwan, destroy their binding treaty over Hong Kong, start a border skirmish with India, engage in cyberwarfare and hostage diplomacy, try and influence politics in other nations. The hypocrisy is staggering

> China’s UN Ambassador, Zhang Jun, who introduced Xi Jinping’s remarks, said Beijing “resolutely rejects the baseless accusations against China”. > > In his address Mr Xi said “we have no intention to fight either a cold war or a hot one with any country”. > Really, how does he explain his ever increasing build up of the Chinese military, militarising the South China Sea when they said the wouldn't, and refusing to leave area there that are the recognised domain of other Asian countries... or their military skirmishes and threats to India, their invasion and takeover of Tibet. Their interference in Hong Kong and threats to invade and subsume Taiwan. The list goes on and on. > “No country has the right to dominate global affairs, control the destiny of others, or keep advantages in development all to itself. Even less should one be allowed to do whatever it likes and be the hegemon, bully or boss of the world. Unilateralism is a dead end,” he said. Now that is just downright hypocrisy and bald faced lying when you consider their record. > “We should stay true to multilateralism and safeguard the international system with the UN at the core,” Mr Xi said. “Major countries should act like major countries,” he added, and “live up to people’s expectations.” How very Communist of them. What he means is everyone should act like China and live up to their expectations > Mr Xi defended China’s actions on the coronavirus and called for a more united global approach to tackling the pandemic. Well he would wouldn't he considering where it came from. > “Facing the virus, we should enhance solidarity and get the world together,” Mr Xi said. “Several vaccines developed by China are in Phase 3 clinical trials.” Really? Will they then, as part of the repartions they owe the world, distribute them free to everyone? Will they be safe or just kill off more people?

**How it spreads** The virus that causes **COVID-19 is mainly transmitted through droplets **generated when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or exhales. These droplets are too heavy to hang in the air, and quickly fall on floors or surfaces. You can be infected by breathing in the virus if you are within close proximity of someone who has COVID-19, or by touching a contaminated surface and then your eyes, nose or mouth.
This may be President Trump's most important & POWERFUL speech yet (despite what the media says.
